it's funny the impression you have as a child. as a kid of the eighties growing up i always thought of reagan as america's grandpa. which was a positive as a 5-6 year old.

His vision of the United States as a shining city on a hill to the rest of the world.

Exactly! America's grandpa. Everyone wanted to gather and hear his words.

Not a favorite speech, but Ronnie talking about his birthday, so apropos.

Joking about his age. Him always picking 39 in reference to Satchel Page saying "How old would you be if you didn't now how old you were."

Asked why he left the Democratic Party, Reagan answered that he did not leave the Democratic party, the Democratic party left him.

And yes, the Democratic party has left the Constitution and this country and has become the enemy of freedom and Democracy.

He distilled so much of what it means to be American into his life: great in meaningful ways, flawed in unimportant ways, strong with soft edges, humor to meet any hardship, a vision for a better world, and the grit to put in the work to make that vision a reality. I hope I get to vote for a president cut from this cloth someday.
