I think this message is presently apropos. With all the Trump is lost. America is lost. Absolute doom and gloom abounding, I think it is right to combat with a call to hope. In the interview with Chris Williamson (the relevant part is just minute 2 - 11 but the full thing is pretty interesting), Jordan Peterson makes an interesting observation.

Cynicism is part of the journey to wisdom, but it doesn't stop there. Cynicism is superior to ignorance, which texags loves to prove out. But it is actually flawed cynicism that fails the individual from reaching the greater truth. You are morally obligated to be exceptional (the opening line of the show). And being exceptional comes from seeing the odds against you and being courageous to try anyways.

Enjoy!

Lot of wisdom there. It's always easier to be pessimistic and to tear things down than to stay optimistic and build things up. I teach that to my sons daily. Certainly the same rule applies in politics. You can always find flaws and to an extent you should, the harder thing is to not just take a Black Pill and crap over everything and everyone. It's a battle we all have to fight.

3 and a half hours? The posters above me are already beyond exceptional. Digested 3 1/2 hours in mere minutes.

Maybe they read the part that said: Minutes 2-11 are the relevant parts.
But reading might be considered beyond exceptional for some.

I do think around 37:40 mark, JP's observation that so many people are dying for an encouraging word. The world is very dark for millions upon millions of people. Just something to keep in mind, an honest complement is a light that could be truly special for someone.

The hope is to have discussion of course so I don't mind the jabs about it. It keeps it near the top.

A cool feature on F16 would be to have a virtual sticky thread based on a topic being there to be seen but maybe doesn't drive high interaction but thoughtful interaction. Basically a feature to upvote a thread to keep it in discussion even if it doesn't have tons of posts every moment. Like the Official DeSantis vs Trump thread.

Because I am beyond exceptional, I used A.I. to summarize the Youtube video.

Quote:

Jordan Peterson's YouTube video titled "How to Destroy Your Negative Beliefs (4K)" focuses on the benefits of being truthful, courageous, and optimistic in life. In this video, Peterson motivates his audience to be honest in their actions and beliefs even when it may lead to difficult consequences. He argues that cynicism, which he refers to as "delusion," can lead individuals to think that everything is terrible and that they cannot improve. However, Peterson argues that courage is needed to confront reality and restore optimism. Peterson discusses the concept of delusions and how they can impede an individual's path to fulfillment. He mentions the idea of a "inner Citadel," where people can retreat into when they are unable to obtain what they desire from the world. Peterson also discusses the consequences of taking responsibility for one's failures and examples of individuals who have done so, such as the Matthew principle, which states that those who have more will be given and those who have less will have everything taken away. Peterson encourages people to confess their sins and ask stupid questions as a way to discover where they are deficient and to strengthen themselves. He also advises people to take disciplined steps towards their goals and emphasizes the importance of humility. Overall, the video is a call to action for individuals to overcome negative beliefs and become a more fulfilling person. Peterson emphasizes the importance of being honest, courageous, and optimistic in life, and encourages his audience to take small, disciplined steps towards their goals.

In the YouTube video titled "Jordan Peterson - How To Destroy Your Negative Beliefs (4K)", Jordan Peterson discusses the importance of intellectual humility and how tightly people hold on to their beliefs. He examines the value of asking stupid questions, being prepared to ask them, and not acting like the most informed person in the room. Peterson also shares his experiences with hostile interviews and the impact they've had on his career and social status. He reflects on the importance of facing an attack and engaging in intellectual debates, comparing them to the Pharisee problem in the gospels and the challenges faced by Christ. Peterson uses the example of Nelly Bull to show how journalists can be used to attack one's reputation in an attempt to boost their own. He concludes by emphasizing the importance of being humble, open-minded, and willing to learn from others, including those who challenge us. In addition, he discusses his observations about the corruption of universities and the negative effects it has on mental health for young adults aged 18-25.

In the lecture discussed, Jordan Peterson delves into various topics related to human beliefs and relationships, emphasizing the importance of self-discipline and sacrifice in shaping individuals' perceptions and understanding of the world. He argues that negative beliefs should be avoided through critical reflection, tough questions, and a focus on addressing the sources of offense. Peterson emphasizes the importance of self-knowledge, authenticity, and integrity, and argues that these qualities are necessary for fostering meaningful relationships and personal fulfillment. In this section of the video, Peterson also discusses the concept of 'order within chaos' and its role in shaping individual beliefs about themselves and the world they inhabit.

The hope was desantis, a bona-fide conservative with a successful track record and little to no bones in the closet.

Now we're stuck with populist Trump who is unlikely to win the general and lead to down ballot failures, just as has happened every election since 2018.

Spare me your moralizing. My exceptionalism doesn't require a vote for Trump or any other politician.

It is a powerful listen. JP's setback of depression and darkness has in my opinion given him even more insight to reality and motivation to combat it. I look forward to your thoughts on it (any topic mind you)

JP harps on the negative aspects of life.

Guaranteed some will wrongly misconstrue that as negating all of the good he has contributed, but he does indeed focus on the darker side of life and was told as much by a colleague, who offered a more positive view, in some long forgotten video when we all first heard of him after his initial viral video.

JP acknowledges that reality is often dark. Everyone faces a tough life. Some to lesser extent than others, but life is brutal. If you have never overcome a challenge then you don't know you can overcome a challenge. Some people think negative aspects of life, challenges in particular, are purely bad things. But the response is to respond to take them on and be as positive as you can in the face of it. That is extremely uplifting.

Anyone can be happy when they are eating birthday cake with friends and family shower them with gifts. But dealing with a bad boss, an illness, a personal setback, a friendship that went awry, or an addiction oh that is tough. But that negative doesn't mean it is right to be negative!

If you've read or listened to JP over the years, none of the OP is actually original, just broadcast on a different forum.

Man I have to say I am really emotionally and intellectually moved every time I watch Jordan Peterson give an interview or a talk. It is really rare for me to find somebody that I can just sit and listen to them talk for hours, but he amazes me with his intelligence and wisdom.
