More treachery from the swamp. This is the reason why Demcrats have been able to control everything due to the cowardice and lack of spine from the Republicans.

McConnell is McCain 2.0.

The stupid tards in Congress threw a conniption fit over $10B to build a border wall, but are super a-OK sending 10x to that per month to Ukraine.

And they wonder why their constituents hate them. No ideas, whatsoever, from their POV. Cant imagine why people think they are scum of the earth.

I'm sure the deal isn't building a complete wall and mass deportation...so NO!

Seesh, this is ridiculous. McConnell has a proven record at threading the needle of politics to deliver conservative victories. We have a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court because of Mitch McConnell. He's probably right that Democrats would oppose any new legislation under a Trump Administration simply for the sake of opposition, and now is the time to negotiate some needed changes to immigration law.

McCain was an egomaniac who would gladly see his country and party suffer if it let him score a personal victory. McConnell is noting of the sort.

Agree completely. And why not make a deal now, the best that can be gained that would be signed by Biden, and then try for another deal later if you think you can get better with Trump. The Turtle is right about one thing - Dems will never make a deal with Trump. But if we get a majority in both houses and work a better deal, it doesn't matter what deal we make now - we will have the votes to change it.

Establishment tactics. The GOP deserves to lose relevancy if this is what they want to do.

Or they can hold firm and become much more prevalent while the Ds keep showing their playbook to dismantle America.

Same thing was said in 2005 and 2008 Bush admin, and no deal. Problem is 10x worse now. No change = status quo = millions more illegals = dems win. For better or worse.

ridiculous.

Dems have Senate and WH.

So any terms that get a senate vote will be absolutely harmful to the US overall.

and house republicans are too busy fighting each other to concentrate on out maneuvering the much more capable and united dems in the house.

If you mean that to get a deal we will have to agree to too many things that are bad to get what we want that is good, then you are right. That's why it's called a "deal". There are bad deals and there are good deals. Immigration, for example, is an issue that I would be willing to give up a lot on in order to stop the flow. But of course it all depends on the details.

There's a not terrible chance that Republicans take the presidency, and get a slim senate majority and just barely hold the house.

They could then get a Much better deal.

We have to stop this all or none and start working incrementally.

All or none only works when you control both houses and the presidency.

Take what you can now, and don't let up. Keep pushing.

That said, don't take the deal Reagan was tricked into - dems get what they want now and crawfish and prevent border security when it is their turn to keep up their end of the deal. They WILL renege on the deal.

The problem is we don't think like Democrats. Democrats will push for a deal now then after they get in power they push for a better deal. The only GOP guy that has learned how to do that is a certain Governor from Florida who has won by constantly playing offense.

In my wildest dreams, just a few weeks ago, I thought Trump was dead on arrival. Now, I am not so sure.

He is picking up steam.

There is also a decent chance McConnell has seen internal polling data of what the Congress will look like after the upcoming election and it is either going to be the current breakdown or slightly worse. And if that were to be the case the dems will absolutely not let Trump have his signature (singular?) policy item, just like they did in Trump's first term.

And that would make putting a deal in place now the only way anything happens at all.

And if Mitch is wrong and the republicans get the presidency and majorities in both houses of Congress then they can pass a more stringent bill at that point.

Getting something now is generally better than getting nothing ever.

A border deal? What the hell are the dems offering? To enforce some of the current laws?

What bull crap negotiating from McConnell and all the neocon uniparty. Here, we will let you extort a few hundred billion more in exchange for you pinky swearing to enforce some laws that were passed over two hundred years ago.

Joe Manchin found that out most recently.

LOL if you think the Biden admin would actually enforce the law even after he signed it.

Why pass a deal now that is 1) weak and 2) won't be enforced? It makes zero sense to do so. All it does is hand desperate dems in blue cities and states a victory so they can tell their constituents they did something and take the heat off them. We need to keep the heat up until they come cralwing on their hands and knees and beg for any law so their constituents will not kill them in the fall.

If they pass something now and repubs come back later for a stronger law the dems will say- But we JUST PASSED a border security law then blame the flood that results due to a lack of enforcement and on the Republicans or any incoming republican president.

This is a no win situation to pass something now. Alot of you guys haven't learned much about how the Dems operate.

The best repubs can do is shut everything down til after the election.

Trump damn near fixed the border single handedly when he was president. With precious little help from Congress he got the wall started and established the "Remain in Mexico" policy. Illegal crossing were reduced to trickle of what they once were. Now it's a tsunami. A foreign invasion orchestrated by democrats and the Chamber of Commerce.

Frankly, I don't think McConnell is on the side of American conservatives. He seems to just be in the senate to make himself filthy rich. Having said that, my heart goes out to Speaker Mike Johnson and conservatives and republicans for only having a 2 vote margin in the House. With democrats running everything else, republicans have very limited power.

Insanity. Any deal that involves rewarding illegal aliens is insanity. It will dramatically increase the amount and will lead to massive Amnesty and then more of the same.

We never learn.

Maybe.
Or maybe McConnel et al are just using the old carrot and stick approach without "knowing"

I can't help but think that a large percentage of the American public would feel betrayed if Pubs agree to a large amnesty deal - that is not the way to win elections.

We have seen that with a Democrat as president, the federal bureaucracies ignore any law they disagree with or slow play any implementation over years such that it is never done, and otherwise do what they please and tie up any litigation to remedy that in the courts for years.

They have made the presidency autocratic far moreso than it used to be. It is no longer effectively constrained by balance of powers. Not as it should be.

This means any part of any border deal the administration in power dislikes would simply be ignored, and not acted upon. The Dems will ask for more agents and resources…and then use them to process in and distribute and provide services to an even greater number of false asylum claimants. They will not implement their obligation to actually halt the flow of unlawful immigration, nor will they act to remove any already here except in specific circumstances that serve their political interests.

Dems negotiate in bad faith. They are ALWAYS Lucy with the football.

the republicans are utterly incapable of getting a good deal on this issue.

Glad you are so willingly to let the **** hit the fan.

I am not.

House Reps can put forth a funding bill for their Eurotrash and Israel-kowtowing lovefest wars at any time, separating the two issues from each other so they can be considered separate. AS THEY SHOULD BE.

no reason whatsoever these two issues should be tied together.

And what did I say above. If you think you can get a better deal later because you will have Trump and both houses of Congress, then pray it happens and do something later. That has nothing to do with an agreement today because you can get both. Do you think that Speaker Johnson made a bad deal with Schumer when he agreed to cut $20 billion from the IRS budget? (Hasn't yet been finalized). Is that a bad deal? I don't know but I like the sound of it, and if I thought I could win control next year and cut another $60 billion I would be fine with it. My point is that you conservatives who whine and complain about every action taken when we don't have control of the legislature or the presidency are doing harm to the cause. Not every deal is bad, not every compromise is the act of a loser. In fact, it's the opposite.

That's what I was going to ask. If Trump wins, doesn't it bode well all down the ticket? Executive order the **** out of it on day one and then work through legislation starting on day 2 the proper way.
