Additionally...do we know Trump supports this behavior? The reasons for being appalled at Trump over this are very similar to the reasons why we should be appalled Trump supporters trespassed on January 6th.

I think a Trump has emboldened the swamp and another Trump victory would make it even worse. People who would otherwise be non-inclined to violate their oath of office will make an exception in the case of Trump. After all, each thing he does like this is more proof that he is 100% about Trump and 0% about the party or country. They will consider themselves as protectors of the country FROM Trump.
