Retail theft has gotten so bad in blue cities that retailers are going to extremes. Target shut down self check registers and banned minors from entering in one Bronx location unless accompanied by an adult:

Various stores around the country have been banning kids since at least when I was kid that wasn't allowed to go unaccompanied into the Walgreens across the street from my junior high school

The Diamond Shamrock in Navasota had a "1 kid at a time" policy when I was in 4th or 5th grade, which would have been 1988ish.

Yeah corner stores do that a lot.

That's absurd. Not sure absurd is strong enough. The alternative is to close the store which you would also call racist. This store has a massive theft problem or we wouldn't be here.

Does it ever occur to anyone on the left that people are responsible for their own actions and the consequences of those actions? Does it not occur to you that this doesn't happen in College Station because crime isn't a problem here like it apparently is in the Bronx?

Except retail theft has been creeping up since 2017. I think its these liberal cities that are reaping what they sow in minimal punishments.
Good for Target. Corporations should be able to do this in certain areas. Act like animals, get treated like animals.

What's the problem? I've been assured that as long as the theft is under $500 then it isn't even going to be prosecuted. Cuz... you know, insurance and feeding your family and stuff.

As much as these stores ate losing, they could hire actual cops overtime to do security. Local CVS pharmacy where I live loses $20k a month in the front store (not the pharmacy).

Cops wont show up for shoplifting, but if you have an off duty cop working, he can make an arrest right there, and another unit will come pick up the thief... Which will stop the bulk of the theft, saving the business $.

Some rough math. An off duty cop is CS is roughly $50/hr plus any admin fees if you're hiring through a security company, in a city like Dallas it's higher. There are places in California where you'll be quoted as high as $300. Let's pretend $50 is a good number even though I'm 100% certain it's low for bigger, more expensive cities.

$50 x 14 = $700/day for a 14 hour day (8am to 10pm)
$700 x 30 = $21,000/month.

Now remember I'm probably low on rate.

Now consider that every agency in America is understaffed meaning there aren't enough police to work the day jobs never mind the off duty ones.

Now consider that agencies restrict the amount of off duty work an officer can do in a week. Not all of them but a lot do.

Simple truth is this isn't a viable option in blue cities.

What if they shopping for their auntie?
