Surprise! Hillary is a lousy professor students say.

Hillary Clinton's fall class at Columbia University felt more like being in a "late-night talk show" audience than a college course, one of many complaints from underwhelmed students, according to a Huffington Post op-ed published Sunday.

Clinton did not read students' assignments, attend discussion sessions, or hold office hours, and students complained that their questions about controversial topics were avoided, according to the piece.

The column by student Cate Twining-Ward was headlined: "I Thought Taking A Class Taught By Hillary Clinton Would Be Empowering. I Was Wrong." Twining-Ward expressed her disappointment about the class and interviewed a few of her peers, one of whom said, "I could have learned everything just from reading her memoir."
Quote:

The class, "Inside the Situation Room," taught by Clinton and international relations Professor Keren Yarhi-Milo, focused on "how to analyze and understand the complex interplay between individual psychology, domestic politics, public opinion, bureaucracy, the international environment, and other factors which feed into decisions about foreign policy," according to the course description.

But Twining-Ward said it "wasn't really a class it was a production."

A filming crew recorded every class, and their equipment tear-down cut half an hour from every session, she wrote.

"Together in class and on tape, we acted much like an audience at a late-night talk show, distracted by the cameras and yet immersed in the vanity of the production," Twining-Ward wrote. "We followed an unspoken script where we were both active and passive at once expected to laugh at certain anecdotes, but not encouraged to raise our hands."

Every week, students waited in line for hours for a coveted seat near the microphone, all for the chance to ask Clinton a question, she wrote, adding it became known as "the Hunger Games Q&A."

Yet, when difficult topics came up, such as the Israel-Hamas conflict, "the discourse was often neutralized and students were referred to panels and events outside the lecture hall for answers," she wrote.
Quote:

What's more, students had been told Clinton would spend the last day of class answering students' questions, but two days before the final class, they learned most of the questions would be selected in advance, she wrote. One was: "What's your favorite Taylor Swift song and why?"

Although students did enjoy listening to Clinton's stories and hearing from other prominent guest speakers, Twining-Ward said she and others she talked with felt disappointed.

The class "made me question Columbia's institutional priorities," she wrote; the university seems to use "celebrity professors" like Clinton to "commodify their students, turning them into audience members and then often receding to the ivory tower when the conversation gets uncomfortable."

Starting Feb. 6, 2024, the university plans to offer Clinton's class videos through a platform called Columbia Plus, which Twining-Ward said sounds "more like a streaming service than a scholarly site."

Wonder what her percentage from the streamng service will be?

Most professors are lousy imo, and obviously only care about research with respect to tier 1 research universities like TAMU; but there are always some truly outstanding ones in the mix.

Can't have any free-thinkers asking a challenging question on real policy. No, they select the important stuff...like whether she's a Swiftie.

No different than "Mr. President, what flavor ice cream did you get?"

We always knew what Hillary was. That's no surprise. The news here, along with the recent actions at Harvard and MIT, is that these once-great pillars of higher education have become an outright joke, where degrees from this point forward are useless pieces of paper.

DEI hires of faculty, replacement of merit based admissions by DEI focused standards, and the replacement of true history and humanities with ideological based curriculum has literally gutted these universities into shells of what they once were.

And since their financial futures are secured with billion dollar endowments - many originally given by individuals they now despise - there is little hope these universities will see the errors of their ways anytime soon.

I put greater value in the trade school in my hometown than in Ivy League schools. That is not hyperbole. I know the folks graduating from trade school can actually do something productive for society. Liberal Arts diplomas from Ivy, not so much.

Columbia students (and parents) aren't real bright, from what I can tell.

I'm imagining the front couple of rows being disgusted as well by the cabbage fart smell. GCF was a lousy lawyer, fwiw.

I mean in theory, I imagine having the chance to be in a class with someone with a front row seat to history. A Margaret Thatcher, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Allen Dulles, even Henry Kissinger. Obviously my list of people I would have leapt at the chance would vary from those students who were already Hillary fans to some degree.

And to have her just be so inattentive, not reading assignments, no office hours, just detached would be very disappointing and lead me to wonder why she even made the effort if she had no desire to teach.

I recall that she was good (really, really cough, cough) at trading cattle futures when she was still living in Arkansas. Had a streak of positive positions that defied all logic and odds….

oh right, that lady that made every strategic decision throughout her life to become president only to lose to an up and coming black Senator from Chicago.

Then she was promised by the DNC to be given the nomination in 2016 if she suspended her campaign.

Then when handed the nomination, she lost to Donald Trump.

The only valuable comment in that whole article was made by the one who said they get to put on their resume that they had a class with HRC. That's what she gave them. Anyone, including the author, who expected more is an idiot. But college is for teaching idiots how the real world really works, so in that sense the author got the education Columbia was supposed to give her. Welcome to the real world, kid.

Best professor I ever had was in Grad School (MBA candidate). Was not highly impressed by most of the others and disappointed by some. The best's class room method was IMHO, unique. One hr, MWF class, 20 or so Master's candidates w/2 or 3 Phd. students. He lectured, day 1 for 50 or so minutes, turned to the class and asked if anyone disagreed with what he'd placed on the BB. One or two Phd. candidates took exception w/1 or 2 of his posts. He discussed their issues and struck both from the list...stating we were responsible for all else come tests time.

Next, he announced what the subject would to be for the next class and then...(wait for it)...stated "Come prepared to teach it." He never lectured again. He choose the subjects and would call, at random who was to lecture the class that day. He also warned us, that lecturing one day would not prevent him from selecting you on consecutive class days. He did so to me and one other Master's candidate.

I never worked sooooooooo hard for any other class or professor. Sadly (to me), he is now deceased.

That is amazing.

Favorite prof of mine was an Anglophile who taught British History. Red head, mustache, leather elbow pads on his tweed jackets. He made British history very entertaining, class was laughing. He taught but he made teaching fun for his students as well.

But those parents get to interrupt and one-up their friends by constantly mentioning that their brilliant kids are at Columbia. That's important, right?!!!

Remember when liberals were outraged about the conditions that Haitians had to live in? I do. That was like 15 years ago.
