A lot to break down here. I'd bet Holodomor and Armenian genocide denial would break along similar lines. Different reasons but similar breakdown.

Anyone who has spent a few years around a Church does.

I'd like to see the breakdown across religions.

Top groups that believe the Holocaust didn't happen:

-Democrats: 10% (vs 5% of Republicans)
-Black people: 13% (vs 5% white people)
-City residents: 14% (vs 3% rural people)
-Young people: 20% (vs 0% of age 65+)
Approximately 12 million people were worked to death or out right murdered because of their faith or ethnicity.

There is mountains of evidence and thousands of lucky survivors that testified in court about it. Thousands of Allied Soldiers saw the camps and the piles of bodies. Everything has been documented in records, photos and video.

The Nazi's themselves kept detailed records of how many people that they killed in the camps or just shot and dumped into ditches. The Nazi's created an entire infrastructure to systematically kill Jews and other undesirables. They even had railroad spurs that went directly into the camps to deliver the victims.

We have failed as a society and so has our education system if we have people that do not believe that the Holocaust happened.

The Holocaust happened. The dispute is over the numbers.

I was in high school from the fall of 1988 to the spring of 1992.

Please tell me I am not the only one that had to watch black and white US Army film of the liberation of the concentration camps, the walking dead Jewish (and others) prisoners, and the mass graves and mass piles of corpses. It was part of our mandatory world history curriculum.

According to whom? We're talking about flat out holocaust deniers, not historians who want to quibble over the number of deaths.

The deniers say it was all actors. We're talking about a man in the high castle type level conspiracy. Because, according to them, Jews control the world.

Fairly certain the recent Hamas attack and seeing most of the world sympathizing with the Palestinians instead of the Israelis throws that theory out the window.

It's un-f'ing real Benny.

The Holocaust is absolute historic fact. Sickening.

Was Gen X the last round that educators made sure we absolutely knew this happened no matter how disturbing the footage we had to view was? I am not joking about this. Our history teachers took this seriously. And God bless the US Army who documented it per Ike's unwavering orders to ensure the world and future generations knew this truly happened.

F16 OGs will remember we had a Holocaust denier a few years back. A no joke actual poster who was not a rook and not a complete stranger on the forum who randomly let it out on a side conversation. I don't remember if they were Ag tagged or not.

I never saw staff permaban someone so fast after calmly engaging with others. No cursing or anything and to their credit they were defending their viewpoint to the best of their ability. Mods didn't care and nixed to the nether realm. It was kinda wild.

My paternal grandfather, a Class of 41 Ag, was a B17 pilot in the European Campaign who entered the war in the Pacific in 1941 and finished the war in Europe in 1945. Lt to Major. He was stationed in Germany from the surrender and then another 4-5 months because he was competent as hell, spoke German, and they needed him to step out of a combat role and in to admin. My grandpa toured the camps. He interviewed survivors. He was involved in documentation.

Literally tens of thousands of US service members saw this first hand. Simply unbelievable this is disputed or that we're going argue over numbers.

Because 6 million would be more palatable than 13 million. Or maybe 1 million is only a little bad.

Besides the fact that I have never heard anyone say the crux of the argument is the numbers

Where do you get these insane takes on almost everything?

We know very well how many people the Nazis killed because they kept records of the entire damn thing.

You can try to quibble all you want, but the debate has never been about the "numbers."
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Holodomor and the Armenian Genocide aren't even on the radar of most people. Thank God the Jews keep their struggles at the forefront. Wouldn't want them to think they aren't unique.

My father liberated one of these camps... He never talked about it much, but when he did it was damning.

It is one of the most well documented stories of the 20th century. Rabid anti-semitism is the one aspect of the Nazis that never changed from day 1. Mofos damn near pulled the final solution off. Utterly terrifying.

I would say about 1% of the population knew about the Holodomor before Ukraine happened. That number is probably still only about 3%. Maybe even less. I would probably say 5% would have known about the Armenian genocide only because it was brought up some during all of our Mideast excursions the last several years.

These stats make total sense to me though. Our current youth are the most miseducated demographic we've ever had and that is despite all of the information available. Simply a function of leftists dominating academia and not teaching history, reality, or facts anymore.

We can't be surprised a sizable portion of society doesn't believe it happened. First it's horrific which by itself makes it difficult to comprehend. In that regard it's no different than the huge death toll from Communism in the 20th century, just too massive to comprehend. Second, we're now 80 years away from the end of the war and almost everyone who lived it has passed. We have almost nobody left with first hand knowledge of what happened.

Last summer we toured Normandy and our guide said he was worried about history repeating itself because there was nobody left to pass on the knowledge first hand. He recalled hearing from his grandparents about the Nazi occupation and the eventual liberation by the Americans and Brits but said they were gone before they could teach his kids. It's significantly different reading it in a book than it is hearing it first hand from people you know and love and trust.

As to this specific survey it's no surprise Democrats are twice as likely not to believe as are Republicans. It takes a high level of naivety to be a liberal and with that comes an inability to accept that humans are capable of doing some really awful things. It's a huge part of what makes them dangerous. History repeats itself because naive people refuse to accept that it ever happened in the first place.

Agreed. So many Dems/Libs I know just refuse to believe that people are very capable of doing terrible things. That is probably why they see absolutely no reason for people to own or carry a gun. They do not even understand why you would cross the street when you see a gang of thuggish looking kids walking your way. They are naive and they refuse to learn.

I will be visiting Dachau next fall on an Easy company tour from London to Munich. I've been to Europe several times, but I've never been to any of the concentration camps. It will be sobering.
