Was Mike Johnson the Planned McCarthy Replacement All Along?

For those that followed this closely, is it possible getting Mike Johnson was the play for the conservatives all along?

Reasons:
1. Mike Johnson is a nobody and would be easy to secret vote against and Americans wouldn't bat an eye. So it wasn't really possible for him to be the guy in the first go round.
2. Put up a Jim Jordan who will get a ton of hate. Have him be defeated by secret vote. Setup the rhino vs conservative battle lines. Also have the media blow their load on hating on Jim Jordan. Public would get anti-republican nominated speaker fatigue.
3. Then nominate Mike Johnson. Who? Have the vote be a roll call so people are put on record. Republicans would have screamed if there would have been a push to not do a roll call vote. Any RINO that tried to defend it would be ending their political career. All the stars aligned nicely for Mike Johnson to win.
4. Jim Jordan had baggage that Mike Johnson won't. So Mike Johnson might be the better candidate of the two to lead as speaker.

this was all a self-inflicted gun wound performed by and on the House Republicans. No need to go 4D chess. House Republicans are not that smart.
The smartest House Republican appears to have been John Boehner.

Oh look a DeSantis fan who is upset that a far more conservative got elected as House Speaker. And the butthurt is because it happened under the MAGA movement. I'm shocked. Shocked. Okay not shocked at all.

It should be expected a degree of critical thinking and strategy takes place in these political moves. And 3 weeks of circus is going to be forgotten (likely gone unnoticed) by the masses in 2 weeks anyways.

I am just surprised JJ didn't go to at least 12 rounds of voting...I think he would have had it with enough public outcry.

Purely a fig leaf for everyone to save face. Kick the can down the road and see if they can hold on to the House in '24.

That optically would have made JJ look weak. Barely getting the vote.

Mike Johnson got it on the first go round. People "signed" up for it from the get go. Politically it will be much more dangerous for Republicans in the house to break from Mike Johnson's direction. Under Jim Jordan they could say well he wasn't really wanted it just took forever to get him though.

DeSantis would be happy. The DeSantis "fans" on Texags are generally not or absent. Or are upset that it was MAGA that did it and are being nitpicky on how it wasn't the best candidate or done without any drama.

The point being to illustrate how many people on this site portray themselves as "DeSantis" guys but are not the conservative stalwarts they claim to be and really just have really bad cases of the TDS.

That idea took 10 minutes of thought and putting together the pieces. Do you not think the people with political power and sway can't come up with similar ideas?

If the democrats/rinos don't reject Jim Jordan then they cede even more power to MAGA. Knowing that they won't let that happen the plan was to really get Mike Johnson in that spot. It is called putting your opponents on the horns of a dilemma. So if they know anything about General Sherman, they will know that basically strategy that is extremely effective.

It's some not quite tin foil hat, but like half-way there level stuff. No, they did not come up with that scenario. If that were the case, we never would have gotten to this point to begin with. They went nuclear and took a chance, and frankly it looked like they were going to lose the bet. Thankfully, they pulled some like cards in the river, but the likelihood is it was a bad bet and they got bailed out.

I am glad they did, but it wasn't a smart move to begin with. 8 out of 10 times if that happens, we lose and lose big.

OP, let's not pretend this wasn't a huge, messy internal struggle (a necessary one) where a good outcome was salvaged (hopefully). There's no way this was some choreographed maneuver.

I'm a DeSantis guy but would have been thrilled with Jordan and was disappointed when his nomination failed. Unlike some on F16, I don't care who wins as long as they represent conservative values and can win. People keep trying to make this about Trump or whomever but it is not. We should be about advancing an ideology and not a personality.

I think to a degree this is predictable though. It isn't hard to anticipate the opponents likely moves in response. It wasn't a surprise that Jim Jordan was defeated. It wasn't a surprise how he got defeated. But the looming need for a new budget bill and aide package actually worked in the Republican's favor. They bet that after Jim Jordan would be struck down in a secret vote; they could then force a roll call vote which would be more likely to get the nominee elected. Enter Mike Johnson.

If the Democrats see that outcome and try to intervene, then they would have to concede letting Jim Jordan win to prevent it. That is an even worse outcome.

Don't think of it like it is all planned think of it like a flight mission for pilots. Their first goal is to take out the enemies radar. But if the radar is offline then the pilots can't find it on their systems and take it out. But because the enemies radar is not online, that leaves their bridges and other infrastructure targets vulnerable so the pilots hit those instead. It isn't that they knew Mike Johnson would be elected it was that they had a plan that they figured would get Mike Johnson elected.

My point was that going for Mike Johnson first would have been like the pilots going for critical infrastructure targets first. That's great if the opponents radar is offline, but if not that is strategically not the right move. You let your opponent pick how you beat them not you dictate it to them.

Because he's not actually pro America. He's a bush loving old school Republican. He is not a fan of Gaetz. He is not a fan of Jordan. The man would probably have wanted Gingrich to come be speaker or Boehner or the ghost of John McCain. He's upset because his party has finally made a positive turn toward conservatism and steered away from the old uniparty ways.
