Guadalajara is booming. Lots of cranes everywhere. There are lots of manufacturing plants I was visiting plus I saw lots of tech companies with offices. Locals told me it was the Silicon Valley of Mexico. The people are also very friendly, one of the more friendly places I've visited. Also felt very safe.

From few people I spoke with, the current president is popular. They've been hit by high gas prices but government subsidizes it. Solar is becoming a big deal down there. Lots of homes and building are flat roof and have solar panels.

The way they explained the Cartel was like the New York Mafia. The biggest violence occurs when one cartel is fighting with another. If you don't get into anything illegal, you don't run into them he said. I went to a high end restaurant and they were easy to spot. Almost exactly like you'd see on the Sopranos, a fat guy with beautiful young girl.

Mexico has a lot of potential moving things away from Asia.

They are corrupt and do not want to admit. It starts at the top.

All that graft raises prices?

Gotta love their team spirit.

Thanks for the update.
Glad you had a great time.
Are you making consumer goods there now?

If we want to incentivize decoupling from China, we need to incentivize investment in Mexico.

Hurts China. Decreases illegal immigration.

It's about as close to a no brainer as one exists.

Part of the reason it's booming is probably that they are exporting so much human garbage north to us.

Investing in 2 furniture factories outside the city.

Also forgot to mention, the US is building a huge embassy there. It's really creating a boom in that neighborhood.

I've heard of that place.

Mexico is going to be the #1 benefactor to nearshoring. Canada doesn't have the unskilled labor pool. Mexico has all of the above, and plenty of eager workers. If we could only solve the cartel problem.

I think…over time…near shoring solves the cartel problem.

Considering we have the Biden Crime Family that followed the Clinton Crime Syndicate not too long ago, I find that throwing stones at Mexican corruption is a bit ironic.

You think the people you talked to are going to tell you the cartels are what they REALLY are? Last thing they would do is tell the Americano what is really going on. Hell they probably give 20% to the local thugs as kickback.

Cartels of the last 20 odd years became ultra-violent psychopaths with influence all the way to the President of Mexico & every layer of government.... they run the whole show. ISIS learned their terrorist tactics from the Narcos. They are buying Fentanil from China & shipping to the US, killing Americans by the tens of thousands. They don't give a damn. They recruit children and make them kill to initiate them into the life.
Dang sure isn't Don Corleone & the Five Families sitting down discussing business over brandy & cigars.

The core region of Mexico, Guadalajara, Mexico City, east and west coast to coast is all good, and has the least dangerous style of corruption, and money is pouring in.

The farther you get away from that belt, geographically, the more dicey it gets. A lot depends on where the federal troops are concentrated.

The United States government is corrupt as hell, too. We just euphemistically call it "lobbying" and "special interests."

I work regularly in Mexico, including Guadalajara.

Your friends failed to tell you about the Jalisco New Generation cartel. Which is about as violent and cruel as the Zetas were during their territory wars. They attack innocents all the time in the Guadalajara area.

Everyone there is corrupt. Even how legit businesses are built is based on corrupt thinking.

As long as the cartels are allowed to control Northern Mexico and the border and leave the rest of the country in peace, the rulers of Mexico do not care.

The locals telling an investor that things are good and the cartels are not a problem makes sense to me! Just make sure you know how much of the profit is skimmed off to support the cartels before you signoff to do these deals!
