Anybody know what vessels and capabilities the USN is moving into the eastern med? Curious is all and of course whatever type of vessel tells you what we can do and might be preparing to do.
Peace for Ukraine!

The United States has begun moving USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Eastern Mediterranean. This includes the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), as well as the Arleigh-Burke-class guided missile destroyers USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116), USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS Carney (DDG 64), and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). We have also taken steps to augment U.S. Air Force F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region. The U.S. maintains ready forces globally to further reinforce this posture if required.

Wow. You could start and finish a war with all of that. Don't the Arleigh-Burke class vessels carry US Marine detachments or is that another class of vessel?

How many carrier groups does the USN have. ? West coast, ? East coast. TIA

Way back when I was active duty, I think there were eight (4 EC and 4 WC) but Viet Nam may have moved some to WC (6 & 2 ???)

No the Arleigh-Burke's do not carry Marine Detachments,. They are guided-missile destroyers. Flight IIAs and Flight IIIs have helicopters. Flight 1 and II do not. They have a complement of around 320ish officers and men. They carry another 30 to 40 to support their flight operations. If they removed their helicopters, they could add a small detachment of Marines, but they use their helicopters for ASW and some interdiction. So it would be unlikely that they would remove their helos and replace with Marines.

I believe that there are 11 fleet carriers (10 Nimitz class and the Gerald R. Ford), one of which (USS George Washington) is currently undergoing routine maintenance.

There are only 8 Supercarrier battle groups in the world.

And the USA owns all of them.

I saw that but then I also saw the 9 number...went conservative. I will defer to you.

They are amphibious assault ships. We still have those now (7) with the Bonhomme Richard stricken in 2021 after it was "totaled" due to a fire. And yes they can carry an MEU (more or less).

Ha. Probably so. And then he will ship them about the country in the middle of the night like he did with the Haitians while simultaneously blocking Cubans from entering.
