Who ever needed to block people on Twitter except for public officials and journalists?

Fundamentally, it goes against the platform's reason for existing.

I've been listening to the Twitter Space where they're talking about this and these people are having a melt. People from both sides of the political aisles crying about this, and I can't help but think that if you weren't such a divisive butthole on Twitter and vilify those on the opposite side you wouldn't have the issues you have. Majority of their problems are self-inflicted.

It also sounds like being a butthole on Twitter is their livelihood and the block feature allowed them to build a bigger echo chamber to monetize. It feels like some of them are scared they're going to have to get an actual job.

Honestly, the only ones who have spoken up and made the most sense are those who are sex workers with their profiles.

They're keeping the mute feature.

One reason could be because lots of people block advertisers and sponsored tweets. This costs Twitter revenue due to reduced visibility of ads. Eliminate people's ability to block and then you're forced to view all ads.

I told him he was one of the worst representatives of Texas A&M in the 125 years of the school's existence. He fired back and insta blocked.

What's the big deal? You'll still be allowed to 'mute' a person.

It's liberals #1 defense when confronted with facts or logic, and extra bonus that this will drive them even crazier. So I vehemently support it.

This sounds logical but I could see why some people would want to be able to block harassing individuals from commenting on a tweet.

Maybe the remove the block featured but add a new one to X someone. The X'd user is now removed from the timeline and seeing your timeline. Just a rebranding.

The Acosta one actually got me a temp ban. Asked him a simple question, but I guess I used a no-no word that was a normal, perfectly sanitary term just a few short years ago.

I haven't been blocked by anybody that I know of. I do block people who post partisan political comments and/or porn on my feed. I've got 7th grade and 4th grade Texas history students reading it. Fortunately both Twitter and Facebook seemed to have gotten a much better handle on it in the last few months. It was driving me crazy on Facebook. Even with every filter I could think of they'd find their ways around it. I've never had much of an issue on Instagram at all. Not sure why.

As for Elon removing the ability to block people, I will wait and see what kind of impact it has on my Twitter feed before deciding whether to stay or go. On the one hand, I've got 126 thousand followers on Twitter and I don't want to leave the platform unless I'm forced to. On the other hand, it feels more and more like it's descending into something chaotic that I want no part of.

PETA - Made a comment about tasty animals
Regan Battalion - They posted something about Trump that was attacking people who supported him, then realized many of their followers probably voted for him, deleted it, and reposted something that that wasn't as harsh. I had a screen shot of it and asked them why they didn't stand by their original tweet.
John Cusack - Dunno
Michael Berry - Dunno.
Olin Buchanan - Some sip started calling something he posted "racist," so I told them to EAD and replied with Jabba the Ketch's Ole Miss tweet and articles of the bleach bombs on their campus.

Probably several no name snowflakes who can't handle being questioned or asked to back up their opinion.

Terrible user experience to have to constantly mute trolls on followed threads. There are coordinated attacks on followers involving thousands of people. Everyone I follow is in unanimous agreement that muting is essential.

Robert griffin the 3rd is / was the biggest snowflake ever. If anyone would say something slightly negative about him on Twitter at all, he would block you so fast.

Rg3 will be disappointed with this news.
