Are you proud of what you see in our government? I'm certainly not.

Why would anyone be proud of the country in the state it's in? I'm proud of what it was. That's gone.

I live and work here now, that's it.

We are 8-10 years away from post constitutional America.

Well, they are part of America...so not sure what that says. No one has been happy with the government for a long long time. I think now their just acting like there's not much they can do.
They need to pull up their bootstraps and quite being so defeatist. This is their/our country. What we really need now is significantly better candidates for elected offices.
You can't blame the good ones for not running...but it also then lends itself to the sketchy ones running and winning.

Love nation but despise what the left is doing to it, most likely. Also, decades of garbage propaganda in education making false claims about how flawed and terrible America is without putting our history into perspective and context.

Hell, we now know our own govt was in on JFK, likely MLK, the NIH has actively worked against the best interest of our health, the FDA actively works against our health, War on drugs has decimated cities, war on poverty has proliferated it, likely didn't land on the moon, policies that destroyed the nuclear family, everything we were taught growing up was a damn lie. Point being its not a post covid thing that the govt started getting things wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I'm damn proud of those who served and died to protect us and uphold the American ideal but we have strayed so far and I guess its just now hitting me how long we've been off course.

"Extremely Proud" is ridiculously subjective. I wouldn't consider myself extremely proud of the US now or ever.

What we really need now is for people to run for city, county, and state offices.

***** I'm an old republican and I'm not proud. We have completely lost our way and turned our back on what made us exceptional. I'm disappointed and scared for the future.

Not sure I can agree with this take. This isn't on them. It's on us. Until we as a country take our Constitution seriously, and return to being true to principles - regardless of party affiliation - and place country over party, we're in extremely dangerous waters when it comes to sustainability of the American idea.

I'm not going to blame these kids for not being proud when they're currently faced with 16 years of educational indoctrination saying what a terrible racist history this country is built upon and that our founding fathers were selfish racist slave owners.

Plus, they're faced with a media that's content to demonize some over phone calls and paperwork disputes while giving a pass to others who enrich themselves by taking bribes from our enemies. A media that rationalizes the burning of cities in "mostly peaceful" protests, but revels in the incarceration of grandparents who were present at a DC rally that got out of hand.

I can go on. Point is, we can be proud of what this country SHOULD represent because we remember what once was, but our kids haven't experienced the national pride that we were blessed with. And many positions are currently taken that simply don't make sense. Until we address that, there's not a whole lot to be proud of.

Young Republicans never saw Ronald Reagan ignite a spark of patriotism in this country that even the most hard core democrats couldn't refute.

Compare and contrast that to watching leadership out of idiots like carnival barker Trump, pants ****ting Biden, or race baiting Obama.

I believe the same thing happened in the 1960s, early 1970s when leftists almost hijacked the Boomers, who faced the draft, Vietnam, high inflation, two successive corrupt, lawless administrations (Johnson and Nixon) and look what happened next: the Jesus movement, which fueled the Christian Right and the Reagan Revolution. Gen Z is one existential crisis away from pivoting in their opinions about God and politics.

now it is 32 percent

Have these sampled 18-34 year olds traveled to / experienced societies outside the U.S.?

Their views will change when they do.

Travel to far off locales ... after a few weeks away... it is a blessing to set foot on U.S. territory.

What is there to be proud of? We're trending towards actually becoming "The Great Satan".

This country is crap, and hypocritical to the core. We have zero business pointing fingers or calling anyone else corrupt. I hope more and more right wingers grow to despise this country. Only way change back towards sanity and a healthy culture becomes realistic.

Don't get me wrong, we have it easy here...so easy we can afford to be lazy hedonists and get by in life.

But there ain't sh** to be proud of. We are a joke. We have weaponized govt agencies that rig elections. And we could go on and on. We are an embarrassment. And we have no excuse...we are intentionally committing cultural and national suicide.

I am still proud of Texas and the south though.

And our government rigged the last presidential election and also tried to punish people and families who just wanted to make their own medical decisions.

F*** America.

Our forefathers crafted the greatest nation to ever exist. The last several generations have squandered that inheritance. The country is running in inertia, but the trajectory is an embarrassing reflection of our failure as a people.

Pride and respect should comes from advancing the quality of life for future generations, not from squandering a trust fund.

The federal government:
  • prosecutes political rivals
  • has a two-tier justice system
  • has weaponized the DoJ, FBI and IRS against its citizens
  • censors its citizens
  • prosecutes parents at PTA meetings who speak out against indoctrination
  • uses FBI's counterterrorism division to investigate parents speaking out against CRT
  • boots out servicemen who refuse to take an unproven vaccine
  • fires people who refuse to take an unproven vaccine
  • jailed protestors from Jan 6th without due process
  • repeatedly violates its own Constitution
  • no longer has free and fair elections
  • literally has a Ministry of Truth (aka Disinformation Governance Board)
  • teaches critical race theory
  • orders a stand down in the military to purge Trump supporters
  • urges Supreme Court to allow cops to enter homes and seize guns without a warrant
  • works with private firms to take on false identities and monitor what they consider to be extremists
  • stranded thousands of Americans in Afghanistan while prioritizing evacuations of Afghanis
  • implements a 'social credit score' on companies in order to obtain loans
  • pushing for 'racial equity audits' for tech companies
  • awards $172 million contract to Soros-linked group to help border crossers avoid deportation
  • working towards allowing the UN to take over in case of "emergency"
  • uses tax dollars to fund anti-conservative blacklists for advertisers to use to avoid advertising conservative companies
  • punishes those with good credit scores while rewarding those with bad credit scores
  • uses encrypted online chat room to tell Mexico when to let migrants swim across Rio Grande

While it's a subtle difference, I think it's pretty important.

The poll asks if you're extremely proud "to be an American" and not "of the US".

I think those are actually separate things...

You can be very proud that you're a citizen of the country that is the USA while not being as proud of some of the things the USA has done or things that are occurring in the US.

But, I agree that question is ridiculously subjective. I think you and I probably see most things alike, but I would say I AM extremely proud to be an American and always have been. And I understand why you said what you said.
