very disappointing but can understand their pessimism because of current events
They need to pull up their bootstraps and quite being so defeatist.
Not sure I can agree with this take. This isn't on them. It's on us. Until we as a country take our Constitution seriously, and return to being true to principles - regardless of party affiliation - and place country over party, we're in extremely dangerous waters when it comes to sustainability of the American idea.
I'm not going to blame these kids for not being proud when they're currently faced with 16 years of educational indoctrination saying what a terrible racist history this country is built upon and that our founding fathers were selfish racist slave owners.
Plus, they're faced with a media that's content to demonize some over phone calls and paperwork disputes while giving a pass to others who enrich themselves by taking bribes from our enemies. A media that rationalizes the burning of cities in "mostly peaceful" protests, but revels in the incarceration of grandparents who were present at a DC rally that got out of hand.
I can go on. Point is, we can be proud of what this country SHOULD represent because we remember what once was, but our kids haven't experienced the national pride that we were blessed with. And many positions are currently taken that simply don't make sense. Until we address that, there's not a whole lot to be proud of.
