This article suggests he is, saying Scott is now double digits in polling.

https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/4115836-is-ron-desantis-the-next-scott-walker/

George Will published a piece not long ago, predicting that neither Trump nor Desantis will be the nominee.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/14/trump-desantis-not-inevitable/

I think more attention needs to be paid to these other candidates, because I believe like George Will, it will be one of them that is the nominee. Mark it.

I could vote for Tim Scott, for sure.

No and George Will hasn't made a correct political prediction in 30 years.

I like Ramaswamy and Scott a lot better than Haley, Pence, Burgum, Christie, Hutchinson, Suarez, or others who may not have decided to run yet (Pompeo, etc.).

You're going to vote for the Democrat so why do you care?
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

After his State of the Union rebuttal and Tucker interview? LOL no. He is not a serious candidate.
No, I don't care what CNN or MSNBC said this time

There is less than 1% chance that it's not Trump or DeSantis.

Never voted for Dem for President, senate or house in my lifetime. But keep up the ad hominem, as if I don't get to have an opinion because of all the MAGA-brain here.

I'll end up voting for whoever the R nominee is but I think RDS has the best chance of winning.

If anybody but DeSantis or Trump ends up the candidate, it means the GOP establishment worked very hard behind the scenes to go against their voters. DeSantis is the republican parties best chance to win, but im sure the idiots in charge of the GOP could somehow screw that up.

No he is not. He is the GOP Bernie Sanders. Unlikable and divisive and unappealing to independents.

Yep. But, for purposes of this thread, if Tim Scott is the nominee somehow in November of 2024 I would walk over hot coals to vote for him.

Are you talking about DeSantis? I'm guessing the ideal republican candidate for independents is milquetoast and dem-lite.

"Unappealing to independents" yet flipped Miami-Dade, winning by 10 points after Trump lost it by 7, and turned purple Florida deep red. I'd be fine with Scott and think he'd beat Biden too but DeSantis is a much better option.

when they aren't trolling trump supporters, this person says anyone who doesn't pledge allegiance to Desantis is a leftist dem voter. Their schtick has pretty much been worn out at this point.

The more I listen to Tim Scott speak, the more he sounds like a walking soundbite machine. Very little in the way of substance or a clear message on his plan for America, but tons of platitudes and tropes that would make for popular bumper stickers or campaign ads.

Not impressive to me at all.

NOT A CHANCE IN H@LL

it will be most likely Trump, with Desantis having a strong shot. if anything Ramascammy has a better shot than Scott. have you seen Scott actually debate or be questioned about his accomplishments as a conservative?

The weird thing about Scott to me is that he is unmarried/never married. I don't think he is a 'miss Lindsey' but how many US Senators has that ever been true about?

That said, I like him a lot as a candidate and would have a tough time seeing him lose to a Democrat if he were the nominee so…we can pretty much rule out any possibility the GOP would nominate him.

One could argue that not being married makes him the smartest person in the field.

Desantis isn't going anywhere, at least not until the first primaries are done. So what good would bringing in Youngkin do? Split the current non-Trump vote even more? Make it even easier for Trump to win the primaries?

I'm sure that Trump would love that move, but I don't think Youngkin would come in and make any bigger splash than Desantis or Ramaswamy or Scott. The donors who dislike Trump and are getting this antsy so far out in advance are the problem, and if the GOP doesn't get them under control they're going to **** this whole election up and get us another Dem WH and Congress.

The GOP needs to get its act together (it likely won't with McDaniel in charge) and act like the Dems do....narrow down the candidate field through whatever means necessary.
nortex97

I'm not sure it really matters for at least another 120 or so days how many candidates there are. RDS is doing great at fundraising anyway, and ultimately as the primaries draw near ad spending will consolidate around him and maybe one more. It's the 'normal' order of things for the irrelevant ones that can't raise funds/make a dent at winning key states/building momentum just drop out.

The panic about it not being a 'horse race' too much right now is much ado about nothing. Keep in mind there is also ample time for DJT to say/do stupid things between now and January too.

since Scott is unmarried, he could either be a master debater or he might suck.

honestly, I think DeSantis and Ramaswamy will be the better debaters, assuming Trump allows the other candidates to talk.

Yep, Youngkin press about his popularity has taken off. He's being courted in the event the big donors pull the plug on Ron.

if you believe we have fair and secure elections, Joe Biden is, by far, the most popular politician in our nation's history, far more popular than the likes of both Obama and Trump ever were.
