Allot of those sites pay "freelance writers" or whatever they're called to do some Google searches & send the compiled data/story in for them.

By freelance writer they mean basically anyone who will sign up through their platform, and write them neat things that generate clicks.

Allot of top 10 lists and other so called "best of" lists do that.

WOW!

Books, fees and tuition back when I was at A&M was about 500-600 max. I lived off campus my entire time though.

Imagine what it would be like to go to St John's in Santa Fe.

They have reportedly been working hard to lower tuition. Their web site is reporting that they got it down to $37,842 per year ($1,113 per hour). Not too long ago, I think it was something like $50,000 per year for tuition.

Fall '84 semester

Tuition: $4/hr.
Dorm: ~$330
Meal plan: ~$1,200 (any 12 meals/wk)
Books: ~$200
All sports pass: cannot recall... maybe $200 for full year that incl. football, basketball, and baseball.

Actually, went back and consulted Dad's journals. Was more like 250-300..

That number has to be tuition only right? I thought A&M was easily in the $25k ($12.5k per semester) range for everything (room, meal plan, tuition, fees, etc)

That is roughly correct; all-in costs are about $25-27k per year with all school, living, food, expenses, etc.

Yeah but that was back when the Mexican government was selling land in Tejas for ten cents an acre to get settlers to move here.

Rice stopped giving out merit based scholarships, so our cost for 4 years would have been about $250K.
A&M with all the merit scholarships ended up being under $10K for the whole 4 years.

Sounds like BS. Rice is $72K a year.

1976 to 1978, I could go both fall and spring semesters for about $4,000 to $4,500. I lived in a dorm and was on the 7 day meal plan. I worked derricks on workover rigs and drilling rigs and made about that amount during the summer. Of course, there were other expenses (car note, fuel, etc.) so I wound up getting loans for part of my cost.

About $8,000-10,000 per year around 1997.

I would love to see what the inflation adjustment on tuition from the 80s is and compare it to minimum wage. Back when you could be a single income earner and buy a house or two blue collar jobs and not need to make 6 figures

I have one at A&M right now. 12.5k for on campus living in cheapest dorm and meal plan is spot on.

Rice is expensive but but tuition and fees are free for kids with family income under 150k. Tuition, fees, housing and meals free under 65k.

Those numbers are likely slightly wrong. Just off memory during the application process as schools sent packets. Rice was one of the more affordable schools for low and middle income kids who got admitted

Putting three kids through college right now.
2 are Aggies.

Approximate overall cost is roughly 27K per year. Which is VERY competitive.

Per semester.

Jeez, I don't think I ever spent more than $1500 a semester, even counting books.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I knew this already, but I felt good about having $50K for my son to go to TAMU. I guess that will cover 2 years and then he is on his own. I believe my tab when i graduated in '98 was about $35K. Insane what it costs now.

If I remember correctly, I bought my first semester textbooks at Loupot's.

I was shocked last year to mention Loupot's to a grand nephew of mine who is currently in the corps of A&M and he had no idea what I was talking about. It seems like Loupot's is no longer there. Who would have thought that would ever happen?
TXAGBQ76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep. It was sold to an out of state company based in the mid-west a long time ago- and then that company went bankrupt. I bought a few Corps things at Ole Army Lou's, but bought my books from University Bookstore a block down the street. That was founded by John Ramey who is now a State Representative.

Get the facts straight and compare each item of expense. All state supported schools are similar in cost. The problem is the extra cost students to their parents for cars, eating off campus, social cost, etc.

Having at least 1 son at A&M these last 6 years, while the tuition and fees are in this range per semester, you need to plan on $12k-$15k per semester total for housing, food and other additional costs.
