Ah, yes. Orphan (thanks to the poster above). It came out in 2009.

I had a high school friend (he died during COVID) who adopted a pair of kids in the early 2900s. Not sure where they originally came from, but the kids became so unmanageable that they went to court and had the adoption agency take them back. I didn't know you could do that .

Another friend of mine was from Sri Lanka. He and his Sri Lankan wife were older and naturalized Americans . They adopted a Sri Lankan girl from an orphanage. They knew the mother and said she had been a prostitute. They raised the child and pushed her pretty hard to do well in school. She was pretty bright and very pretty. After a year of college, she ghosted the parents, quit college, and ran off with a sketchy Mexican dude she met on Facebook.

They came from the future.

Adopting kids from Russia is risky. They're usually irreparably damaged goods. I hate to say that about a child but it's true here.

No wonder they were such problems.

Adopt Ukrainian brides, not children.
