Starting July 1, 2024, the DEO will provide employers who fail to use E-Verify thirty days to comply. If the DEO determines that an employer failed to use the E-Verify system three times in a twenty-four month period, the DEO can impose a $1,000 a day fine until the employer provides proof of compliance. The DEO is also empowered to suspend all of the employer's licenses until the employer cures noncompliance.

That's a back-end solution to illegal immigration. If they can't work here, they won't come.

I don't like these types of systems. They will eventually just tie it in to a digital ID and implement a social credit system.

Close border, deport ALL illegal immigrants and this problem is solved quickly.

The U,S, has had various reporting requirements aimed at stopping employment of illegals since Reagan was Pres (that I know of...) but with little success for several reasons:
1. It isn't hard to produce a fake SSN, or steal a real one while working on "getting legal"
2. The underground (meaning non-tax reporting) Spanish speaking economy has grown enormous
3. Too many employers/politicians only want to SEEM to be doing something, they LIKE lots of labor/voters.

There have been some raids, on meat packers mostly, I think...possibly more for failure to "donate" rather than for hiring illegals.
Just because something hasn't worked well in the past doesn't necessarily mean it cannot work better with more modern systems. Just don't expect much effective change.

The U.S. will hire what is cheapest and that isn't found here!

It's one of those things that sounds good but is pretty easy to get around. The best deterrence is to actually enforce the law and don't let them come here to begin with

The FL legislation makes that a state felony...so, they better hope they don't get caught.

I actually think DeSantis is honest and could make it work in FL.

I live in Texas, a bordering state of Mexico . Why would I care what the Florida governor recommends?

Because the question the OP asked is if you would support the action DeSantis took in FL if it were to be employed here in TX...

Reading comprehension is hard...

If the government is going to require private companies to screen potential workers for proof of citizenship then A) private citizens should be able to patrol the border and use lethal force and B) all voters should be required to show valid proof of ID and citizenship.
