Disney is fixing to lay off thousands of employees.. these same people thus supported all the Disney BS are now the ones fixing to get screwed over by Disney .. Disney is mainly cutting from their film production sites which would include the screeen writers .. when are these idiots gonna wake up? When it's too late I guess

Seems like TV scriptwriting is pretty formulaic currently, and very predictable in all the wokeness. I would anticipate it being done by AI soon. Lots of folks ain't buying it anymore. Your are what your numbers say you are. Even Brandon.

I 100% believe no strike will happen. All the big dogs are now involved in streaming their own content and they need new content to stave off losing even more money. even in a recession.

a deal will be made.
Have you seen what passes for streaming content these days? A trained platypus with ChatGPT could be writing this **** already and we couldn't tell the difference.

Come up with a movie idea for an IP you bought. Ok, now divide that movie into 10 minute segments. Ok, now add an absurd side-quest to each of those episodes. Heavily lace it with the woke messaging of the day. Do away with any character development: women are born awesome but oppressed by mean white men. Cover up the incoherence with plot conveniences and explanatory lines.

At-da! Your "newest" "content."

Back during the 2007-2008 writers strike, they shut this town down. And I could see their point regarding not getting paid royalties for content served over the Internet. As soon as the writer's strike ended, the GFC hit so LA remained screwed for several years.

Now, we're just trying to get back to normal after the scamdemic so putting everybody out of work again is not good timing.

But on the other hand, my neighbor is a screenwriter and after putting up with all her BLM, LGBTQIA++, No person is illegal, Hate has no home here, stuff, watching her taking a hit doesn't bother me.

Plus these people gleefully voted for Biden and would have preferred Harris. Plus re-elected Adam Schiff. So ..., I hope they get replaced with writers from Bollywood, or AI.

Especially since writing lately has been so formulaic. Take old successful show. Replace all white male characters with females, minorities, homosexuals, T people or Muslims and go.

Hawaii Five-0, Magnum PI, The Equalizer, etc.

Oceans 8, etc.

Seems to me quality might drastically improve. They have scripted a series of failures and underperformance recently.

I think we can help.

Cowgirls - 12 brave young girls persons are hired to drive cattle led by a gruff, old ranch owner who survived her alcoholic husband's abuse and a wise old camp cook.

Gone with the Wind Redux with a black Scarlett O'Hara.

The GodMother

We have three versions of The Hangover to cast with women and barely change the story.

Their material hasn't improved since the last strike.

And... "recently"? You mean recently as in the last 30 years?

It'll only improve because scab writers might be working.

Decades? Arguably some of the best tv ever made happened in the last 10-15 years. Change the channel from Fox News/Newsmax/OAN and you'd know that.

It'd need to be old comic books. Today's comic books seem much more woke.

The fallout last time was a ton of **** projects and LOTS of live action TV for a few years before things got "better".

I guess some of the shows technically started before the strike, but that strike coincided with the time when many excellent dramas began appearing on basic cable and streaming platforms. In fact, I think revenue from streaming was one of the reasons for the strike.

Interesting side note many may already know. The first season of "Breaking Bad" was cut short by the strike, which ended up saving Jesse's life. They had planned for him to die, but his character was re-evaluated when they came back.

speaking of that issue you raise-

for many of the YOUTUBE videos,

there seems to be a human voice on many of them but when it is narrating the video it is clearly some type of recording or computer.

is this some type of AI that automatically is translating (badly) videos into English?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/17/writers-strike-hollywood-wga-vote-latest

Writers in Hollywood represented by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike if union leadership decides to call for one amid contract negotiations with major studios.

The strike vote was approved, with 97.85% of members voting in favor and 2.15% voting against. More than 9,200 ballots were cast in the vote, with nearly 80% of all members participating in the vote. The results surpass the union's strike vote results in 2017, when 6,310 ballots were cast with 96.3% voting in favor.

The current contract ends on 1 May.

In a statement on the vote results, the WGA said: "Our membership has spoken. Writers have expressed our collective strength, solidarity and the demand for meaningful change in overwhelming numbers. Armed with this undeniable demonstration of unity and resolve, we will continue to work at the negotiating table to achieve a fair contract for all writers."

"Hundreds and hundreds of seasoned writers, who would previously have been paid a premium for their years of experience and the added value they bring to a project, are now getting paid the same as new writer-producers," said Laura Blum-Smith, the director of research and public policy at WGA West. "While the business has boomed, and studios have collected almost $30bn in annual profits, writer pay has gone down. The studios are profoundly undervaluing writers and threatening the sustainability of writing as a profession."

Ahead of the strike vote results, the AMPTP dismissed the strike vote ratification as inevitable and claimed an agreement "is only possible if the guild is committed to turning its focus to serious bargaining by engaging in full discussions of the issues with the companies and searching for reasonable compromises".

The WGA is pushing for pay increases that account for inflation and the rising cost of living, increases to pension and healthcare contributions and reining in the abuse of mini-rooms, which are smaller writing rooms on television shows where writers are typically paid less.

I support a strike that lasts at least 10 years. Our kids will be better off for it as will our society in general!
