The Tennessee House has expelled one member for forming a protest in favor of gun control and they are working on two more now.

From https://www.nationalreview.com/news/tennessee-house-votes-to-expel-democrat-who-led-rowdy-gun-control-protest

Quote:

Tennessee's Republican-led House voted Thursday to expel state Representative Justin Jones, one of three Democratic lawmakers who staged demonstrations on the House floor last week to call for gun control.

Expulsion proceedings for the other two lawmakers, state Representatives Gloria Johnson and Justin Pearson, are ongoing.

House Speaker Cameron Sexton stripped the three lawmakers of their committee assignments and placed the trio's expulsion up for a vote after Jones got into a scuffle with a fellow lawmaker and all three encouraged raucous protesters in the House chambers last week.

...

Meanwhile, Sexton rejected claims that he and other Tennessee Republicans are silencing the lawmakers.

"They speak on bills more than anybody. They speak in committees more than anybody. They've had the same opportunities and they're held to the same rules and standards as all other members in the House body, but what they did had nothing to do with the protests that went on inside or outside the chamber," Sexton said. "It was about their actions inside the chamber and what they did to disrupt the proceedings."

"When they came off the House floor, they asked their caucus if they were going to be arrested," he said. "When you ask someone if you're going to be arrested, then you know that you've done something very wrong."

So it's not really that they want gun control, but for protesting in the capitol.

That's fine. I detest protests, no matter which side of the issue they are on, nearly as much as I detest gun control.

I'm just glad to see Republicans that are finally willing to speak truth boldly and ready to fight back.

I am sick of milquetoast Republicans that are scared of their own shadow that cry for decorum and good manners, give meaningless speeches, and never accomplish one thing of worth. Say what you believe and then fight for it with passion and never let up for one second.

Place the involved politicians in jail without bail until trial. At said trial, sentence to the same amount of time as the J6 attendees.

They tossed 2 of the 3. The other survived by 1 vote.

Wow. We're the opposite. Been here since 2009. I miss Texas, but I can't imagine we'll ever leave Tennessee. This country is going crazy, but Tennessee represents what this country used to be. All in my opinion.

Same here. We moved here couple years ago and no plans on going anywhere. Beautiful scenery, four seasons, low cost of living, friendly people. Not sure what AgCat found so objectionable, unless they like liberal politics.

The headlines are already "TN ousted black house members and kept the white lady"….lol, I knew the race card was going to be played the moment they expelled them for being idiots. Be interesting if Republicans can pick those seats up in a special election. I don't know which areas they represented, so may just be backfilled with them running and winning again or another crazy lib.

The first guy voted out was a freshman member and already thumbed his nose at the rules by wearing a dasheiki to a session when the rules call for coat and tie.

And he comes from a district in Memphis, a city where his brand of gun control would do nothing to curb criminals getting their hands on guns.

Apparently the white lady only survived by one vote, because she didnt have a bull horn and whip people into a frenzy like the other two. She was just along for the ride with the rabble rousers….

Lived in Tennessee 13 years. Loved it. Great state, a lot in common with Texas.

They are the Volunteers for their history of fighting for freedom, including at the Alamo.

Just gotta minimize time in the blue cities, like in Texas or anywhere else.

This is why Republicans just need to do the right thing regardless of the optics. The left and the media will crucify they not matter what they do. So just do the right thing and take the heat. It's going to take courage and the will to fight like DeSantis does.
