LOL, that's all this guy does nowadays. But hey, I'll take it. Better than not copying Desantis on EV-ER-Y-THING.akm91 said:
Way to follow DeSantis!
If Abbot blindly followed everything DeSantis was doing the day after DeSantis did it, we would have the 2nd best governor in the nation.Brittmoore Car Club said:LOL, that's all this guy does nowadays. But hey, I'll take it. Better than not copying Desantis on EV-ER-Y-THING.akm91 said:

The Governor, and his left-wing critics, seem to be missing the point, at least as it relates to the recent Wall Street Journal story about Tech's use of DEI in hiring.
The issue isn't minority quotas -- those are not legal, and attempts to work around those are also likely to be struck down by pending Supreme Court cases.
No, the Texas Tech DEI issue is different from that. The Tech department in question was using diversity statements, land acknowledgements, and other woke garbage to determine what white person will be hired; i.e., only those with the correct beliefs.
Only if Abbot is able to hire some of DeSantis' staff. An L of an Ag said:
Actually, if DeSantis wins the Presidency in 2024, then we'd have the BEST Governor!
It was 1965-2016 wasn't it?AGHouston11 said:

It really is. It's like we've stepped back in time 150 years and employers are screening to make sure they don't hire catholics, or god forbid, jews. If your application doesn't show that you subscribe to the woke religion, you aren't getting hired at most of these universities.Burdizzo said:twk said:

Sounds like discrimination based on religion

Do an EO to make it illegal for any employer in Texas, public or private, to use DEI in any way, for any reason in Texas.

This. This EO or memo was to state agencies including universities. Not the private sector or federal agencies.
I think before joining a DEI meeting, individuals should research the definition of equity. One quick search yielded this definition:Detmersdislocatedshoulder said:
i was in a DEI call yesterday when this was announced. it was awesome it immediately became a topic of conversation on the call. the gasp i heard and the whining and moanjg about it made me laugh my asz off. people are very ignorant and have no idea what equity of outcome truly means. morons.
good Abbot even if you followed desantis. better late than never.

Companies with HQs in other states will just roll their eyes.
I can't believe this still has to be said, but the definition doesn't matter lol. They know what equity means, and they know that it's just a buzzword because holding "anti-white meetings" would draw more ire. They don't want equity, they want superiority and they're getting it.Rocky Rider said:I think before joining a DEI meeting, individuals should research the definition of equity. "Equity is the act of ensuring that processes and programs are impartial, fair and provide equal possible outcomes for every individual. Inclusion is the practice of making people feel a sense of belonging at work. Diversity is the presence of differences within a given setting."
I argue that DEI champions uses this definition "the act of ensuring that processes and programs are impartial, fair and provide equalpossibleoutcomes for every individual'
During the meeting ask the lead for a definition of 'equity'. In some form of the response, you should be told that equity replaces merit. As this thread is pulled the flaws in DEI logic are exposed.
The point was not that Tech was trying to fill any kind of diversity quota (although I'm sure that was part of it, but they just aren't lucky enough to get qualified minorities to apply), but rather, that it was shown that hiring was based upon applicants expression of DEI rightspeak, not qualifications.Quote:
An open-records request reveals that Texas Tech faculty penalize candidates for heterodox opinions
At Texas Tech University, a candidate for a faculty job in the department of biological sciences was flagged by the department's search committee for not knowing the difference between "equality" and "equity." Another was flagged for his repeated use of the pronoun "he" when referring to professors. Still another was praised for having made a "land acknowledgment" during the interview process. A land acknowledgment is a statement noting that Native Americans once lived in what is now the United States.
Amidst the explosion of university diversity, equity and inclusion policies, Texas Tech's biology department adopted its own DEI motion promising to "require and strongly weight a diversity statement from all candidates." These short, written declarations are meant to summarize an academic job seeker's past and potential contributions to DEI efforts on campus.
The biology department's motion mandates that every search committee issue a report on its diversity statement evaluations. Through a Freedom of Information Act request, I have acquired the evaluations of more than a dozen job candidates
.
To my knowledge, these documents published in redacted form by the National Association of Scholarsare the first evaluations of prospective faculty DEI contributions to be made publicly available. They confirm what critics of DEI statements have long argued: That they inevitably act as ideological litmus tests.
Well you could try that in your DEI session with HR. Invite me, 'cause I'd like to watch.Muktheduck said:I can't believe this still has to be said, but the definition doesn't matter lol. There's no flaw in the DEI logic. Its purpose is to tear down whites and it's been very effective at doing so. You don't fight that with some cutesy "gotcha" technicality, you fight it by telling them "**** off, I'm going to hire as many whites as I want if they're the best candidates for the position".
