The University of Southern California's School of Social Work will no longer use the word "field" because it "may have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign," according to a letter from the department.

USC's Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work will make the change in order to ensure the use of "inclusive language and practice," according to the letter.

"Specifically, we have decided to remove the term 'field' from our curriculum and practice and replace it with 'practicum,'" the letter said. "This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that would be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant in favor of inclusive language."

"Language can be powerful, and phrases such as 'going into the field' or 'field work' maybe have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign," the letter continued.

The goal of the change was to "to honor and acknowledge inclusion and reject white supremacy, anti-immigrant and anti-blackness ideologies," according to the letter.

It's pretty damn racist of her to assume that only blacks and immigrants work in the fields.

That has to be one of the most idiotic linguistic connections made yet. Any agriculture is associated with a field and ALL agriculture has been free from association with slavery for generations.

Talk about an idiotic reach. Next they'll outlaw the word labor, or tools, or hands, or whatever.

Exactly.

I am a white boy who chopped many an acre of cotton. I have fought the johnson grass and sunflowers, the milkweed and the ivy, all the while being stunned by bees and fireants, and hoping a snake hasn't decided to take shade under a cotton plant.

I am nearly 50 years old and still have callouses on my hands from those years. I still have scars on my arms reflecting my summers on the farm.

I have cut, raked, and bailed many a hay field as well.

Yet in my urban work environment if I even mention that I "chopped cotton" as a youth, I get the stink eye look from the progressives as if I just uttered a racial epithet.

"Newspeak is the fictional language of Oceania, a totalitarian superstate that is the setting of the 1949 dystopian novel Ninteen Eighty-Four, by George Orwell. In the novel, the Party created Newspeak to meet the ideological requirements of Ingsoc (English Socialism) in Oceania. Newspeak is a controlled language of simplified grammar and restricted vocabulary designed to limit the individual's ability to think and articulate "subversive" concepts such as personal identity, self-expression, and free will. Such concepts are criminalized as thoughtcrime since they contradict the prevailing Ingsoc orthodoxy."

Let's just go ahead and get rid of math and the English language while we're at it.

Why stop there. Modern medicine? Racist. Clean water? Ditto. Freedom? White privilege.

I can do this all the live long day.

The Left treats Orwell as a how-to manual

You'd think a country founded in white supremacy with built in systematic racism would be overflowing with concrete examples of racist incidents. Instead, we're bombarded with fraudulent claims and the twisting of innocuous words.
