A New York man filed a class-action lawsuit against Apple on Dec. 24, alleging that the Apple Watch's blood oximeter has a "racial bias" against individuals with darker skin tones.

The Blood Oxygen app is available on Apple Watch Series 6 and newer and can "measure the oxygen level of your blood on-demand directly from your wrist, providing you with insights into your overall wellness," Apple explains.

New York resident Alex Morales alleges that he purchased an Apple Watch between 2020 and 2021, and was aware that the watch "purported to measure blood oxygen levels and he believed it did this without regard to skin tone," according to the lawsuit, which was filed in the Southern District of New York.

The lawsuit further alleges that during the coronavirus pandemic, researchers "confirmed the clinical significance of racial bias of pulse oximetry" using patients' records.

Looking for a payday from a company with deep pockets, but people like this can never pass up the chance to play the race card since it means automatic support and a better chance of winning.

Not bad. But I'll show him. I'm gonna sue the sun. It's harsher on us pasty white people.

So the pulse ox reading doesn't work as good with increased pigmentation

Is there no end to the absurdity!

Shouldn't he sue the people that came up with the pulse oximetry test method then???

Y'all can be upset as you want to be about the "racial bias" angle, but the plaintiff has a legit complaint if he spent money and made health decisions based on a claim that turned out to be at least partially false. I didn't read the article so I have no idea what's he asking (and it's probably too much), but at its heart, this doesn't seem like a frivolous complaint.

I have an Apple Watch with this feature and I expect it to be accurate. I'd be ticked if I found out it wasn't, regardless of the reason.

There is a reason that finger pulse oxygen devices use the under side of your finger where almost everyone has light skin.

No. The degree of accuracy is simply less. It still works on darker-skin people. If it doesn't work go to the store and get your ****ing money back. He's suing for "racial bias". It's a race-baiting money grab and that is all.

Either it's accurate or it's isn't.

Again, I didn't read the article so if we're talking a fraction of a percent and it wouldn't make a difference then it's frivolous. Otherwise, I'd be ticked, too.

Yet another reason when someone makes a racial bias complaint I care less and less and the accusation of racism is like crying wolf. I'm done responding just like the parable.

Last time I used Coppertone, I think it only came in SPF 2 or 4 or 8.
Also, I don't think it was waterproof so pretty much pointless for hot summer days at the swimming pool.

This is a fine example of what I have been saying for years - when everything is racist, nothing is racist.

People like Jeeper are the reason that true racism is often ignored. The next time you learn about a tragic case of racism that was ignored, which made the tragedy even worse - think of Jeeper. His refusal to acknowledge liberal **** smells too is why you ignored what turned out to be actual racism.
