Should death row inmates get last meals? What are your thoughts? The reason I'm posting this in the politics forum is because it has to do with the death penalty.

Everyone has a last meal.... now if you're asking if it should be something they choose, then no. Most of them needed a bullet thru their heads years ago anyway.
Sure. Limit it to $100 that has to be donated… After the cost of their entire incarceration is paid for.

Last meal should be a piece of bread and water.
Why do they have to pay for their incarceration if the money for the last meal is getting donated and the state isn't paying for their last meal? It would make more sense for the name of the donor or donors to be released after the execution as public information.
What if their last meal was whatever the regular prison meal was that day? Or should it specifically be bread and water to punish them?

Yes, within reason. The state is taking their life. Nothing wrong with a simple act of kindness.

The last meal is a way to ensure that the inmate is more likely to be compliant during the execution.
It is also a last mercy, showing that while justice must be served to protect civilization and society, we as a society are not heartless.
While there are lots of things I disapprove of regarding the way death row is handled(length of time prior to the sentence being carried out, number of crazy appeals, etc) the last meal is not one of them.

Should probably not be killing people. Leave them in prison for life, with the ability to do productive labor and spiritual counseling. Feed them nutritious cheap meals.

Didn't they do away with the "whatever you want" last meal in Texas? Seems I recall reading that some time back.

I thought Texas got rid of last meal requests over a decade ago.
They should get the same type meal that the corrections facility has served them for the last XX years.

Death Row inmates should not be given any meal that is different from any other inmate.
I make one exception -- for those who wish to participate in communion before death, this should be allowed and in line with well established faith traditions.
I believe in the death penalty, but religious last rights/rites should be protected.

No - murderers who murder intentionally should ALWAYS be put to the sword when found guilty. In fact, we should expand this to include all sexual assaults as well. Obviously, we need a just judge and a just jury pool. Both are getting harder to find and increasingly are politicized.Silian Rail said:
