She's never seemed happy when in the limelight. I can also envision getting picked on/relentlessly peer pressured for being Ted Cruz's kid.

Don't want to sound callous but why the eff would her parents let her have a social media account? I didn't let mine have one at that age and I'm just a normal person. Just seems like a disaster waiting to happen for a politician's daughter. Especially one that is so polarizing like Cruz. I know kids can be sneaky and get one, but you have got to have that **** on lockdown if you're a politician.

Regardless of how anyone one here feels about Senator Cruz, his family, and their social media presence, suicidal ideation is a deeply personal issue and you cannot and should not speculate on the cause. Doing so belittles those experiencing it and can make them feel further isolated. Some of us know that pain firsthand and the Cruz family doesn't deserve that. They deserve privacy and our prayers.

The impact of social media on young people and its connection to suicidal ideation is a matter worthy of serious discussion, but I think the best way to respect Senator Cruz and his family in this situation is for Staff to lock or delete this thread and let people discuss the impact of social media on young people on a new thread.
