Not only do the plants need it (as discussed in the following video), but also we need the greenhouse gases to keep the temperature to something livable. Without greenhouse gases, the average temperature would reportedly be in the single digits are so.

CO2 dropped to 180 parts per million at the peak of the last glaciation and that is only 30 parts per million above the "death of the planet".
