I think even most libs now quietly concede that it is, in fact, a gay male disease…with few exceptions.

The CDC annual reports make it pretty obvious that it's only a problem for men who have sex with men and drug users. That may not be communicated well overall, but it only takes a few minutes of reading about HIV to know that ads like that should be targeted to limited groups.

EDIT: just to be clear, not hating on anyone or meaning to be "omg the gays". Just pointing out that the information is available and clear that HIV only really affects a small portion of the population and it makes sense to do targeted ads.

We actually should be outraged. We spent billions on HIV/AIDS research for a disease that is almost completely spread and contracted due to irresponsibility (careless sex and drug use). That money should have been spent on diseases with truly innocent victims.

I like to think of it this way, the sexually irresponsible are the ones footing the bill by paying for all these expensive HIV meds to be developed. The meds are then distributed in Africa among those who are 'more innocent' so to speak for a lower cost to help slow the pandemic. Not a bad thing.

Seems like it's been months since I've seen a commercial with a couple resembling one that I know personally. At least the product being advertised matched the demographics of their target market.
