Left is using the government for something it sucks at, which is everything that isn't National Defense.

ETA and roads... some of them, anyways.

I want the nation to return to how it was founded: A weak central government and strong sovereign states. The lefties can go jerk off at pride parades in California all day so long as I don't have to support said activities via my taxes and if said Californians stay the **** out of my state where we ban abortion and what not.

Corporations are not people and shouldn't be allowed to promote business practices that harm the nuclear family (like blackrock buying up residential homes and then renting them out).

In general, promotion of policies that benefit the nuclear family, the local community, the state, and the nation, in that order.

freedom and liberty---period.

Politically, all of my decisions surround those two words. How does the political decision effect me, my family, my friends, and all Americans.

If it takes those items away, then I'm against it.

OP, this is way too big a topic to expect a serious answer, especially since you were too lazy to give your own ideological views.

I'll play.

Right wing means order and hierarchy. It seeks to govern in accordance with Natural Law and upholds traditional morals and customs. It seeks the welfare of the people of the nation and rejects materialism. Authority is given from above and those entrusted with authority have a duty to those that they govern as they will be held accountable by God.

The left wing is revolutionary and aims to "liberate" the individual from any unchosen obligation. It began with the King and the Church, burned through traditional morality and social customs, and now has begun its assault on human nature and biology itself. It is utterly materialist and individualistic.

ETA: Left Wing/Right Wing has very little to do with the size of government. You can have a left wing small government or a right wing big government. It is more a matter of political philosophy that differentiates them, not so much political structure.

Depends on who is using the term. To the media, Bill Clinton and anyone to the right of him are right wing.

RW - smaller, less intrusive government at all levels of a distributed non-hierarchical (local to national) government. Very limited federal government bound by the constitution with states managing what is not clearly fedgov. Policy that encourages and rewards self-reliance, personal responsibility, and a traditional two-parent household. People control the government.

LW - Massive, centralized, all-encompassing government that promises (yet can't deliver) cradle-to-grave security which fosters lazy, irresponsible populace. Soft (or hard) socialism via strict and invasive control of all commerce and supply chain. Government controls the people.

Agree with MarineHorn; this is too vast of a topic.

But, the underpinnings of a conservative world view is the idea of personal responsibility. And perhaps more generally, a belief in a Divine Creator from Whom we are ultimately accountable.

As a conservative, I am probably more fascinated with what drives the liberal mindset. I think as conservatives, we quickly go to name calling and don't think as deeply about what is behind the mindset. For the liberal mind, there seems to be a hyper idealistic view of the world that ultimately leads to a certain insanity. The ideals in their pure, academic form are good if not noble in some sense, but the practical out working is impossible and ultimately nonsensical. The liberal has a form of godliness or spirituality, but almost always wrapped in something they have created in their own mind - certainly not Something that exists outside of their mindset.

A few thoughts -

Personal responsibility
Constitution means what it says
Private property is just that - private
Government is inefficient but should operate with local governments having most influence and federal having the least.
We should have a merit based society without catering to the lowest common denominators.
Leave people the hell alone.
Stop spending money that doesn't exist.
Less taxation. Less taxation. Less taxation.
Term limits.
Bureaucrats decentralized from DC and benefits slashed.

This and also whatever you want to do is fine as long as it makes government smaller. I don't give a crap about women killing their babies or not….less laws forcing it either way is my goal. I don't care about gay people…they are people too and they deserve in life what I enjoy in life. Drugs…don't care, do your thing.

Basically right wing for me is making government small and allowing people to do what they want as long as they stay in their lane. Just get the gubmint nose out of everyone's ass.

This is , of course, the opposite of what right wing means for this board and trump humpers. If those guys can find a way to legislate you and back it by something scribbled in a 2000 year old book written by men, they'll do it.

Contemporary culture in the US will generally define the left as collectivist and the right as individualists. Others with a historical perspective will argue that left is communist, and the right is fascist per the European model based around the WWII era. This is where a lot of confusion exists between the labels people throw around.

In the European model, individualist might stake out the territory in the middle which would make them centrists or moderates.

In the contemporary US model, the middle or centrists or those that don't mind a little central planning, but not "too much".

Personally, I think the European model is outdated and isn't particularly useful in today's political landscape. The two major sides shouldn't be two versions of tyrannical collectivist governments. It doesn't leave much room for individualism and American Constitutional personal liberty.

The contemporary US model with individualist philosophies like conservatism, libertarianism, and even classic liberalism and anarchy exist on the right on a sliding scale with totalitarian philosophies like Communism, Socialism, and Fascism on the left on a sliding scale.

"Moderates" lie in the middle of this spectrum. But, I contend that Centrism, like the Moderates want to believe in, doesn't really exist in a practical sense because ever little bit of 'moderate' power they are willing to accept, eventually balloons into an authoritarian practice. Because once you create that power, it NEVER goes away. It only gets bigger because the ones who administrate that power only want more of it.

Right: trying to slow the inevitable "progression" to socialism. Smaller government, fewer regulatory hurdles, favorable tax environment supports growth, opportunities for entrepreneurs and both domestic and foreign investors, creates jobs, encourages competition and innovation. Fed gov in a republic is foreign relations and foreign trade, national defense & security; not aspects of life. States' rights.

Left: bigger and bigger and bigger government. More regs, tax and redistribute from earners and producers. If the government isn't spending, whether they have the money to spend or not, the world might stop turning. If gov doesn't over regulate, nothing will change. Gov spurs innovation and "progress".

I'm on the right because left is socialist and not what I want for USA. Left encourages a dependent uninspired lazy welfare state. Creates more poverty which creates more power for the policial elites. Left taxes the real drivers of growth and innovation to death and kills it. Left creates tax and reg environments no one wants to invest in. Left uses alarmist crisis to justify out of control nonsensical spending that devalues our currency and causes inflation that creates more government-dependent poverty. Left is carbon copying everything Hugo did in Venezuela.

-Self Reliance and Personal Responsibility in everything from your own financial responsibility to consequences (good or bad) of your own actions and decisions.
-Freedom of the individual
-Minimal reliance on government (The Government is NOT your parents)
-Low to minimal taxes to allow people to keep more of their own money
-Patriotism for your own country is great
-Immigration is great, but illegal immigration is out of control and bad
-Fully support the Bill of Rights in the Constitution.
-Not everything outside of the Bill of Rights is a "right"(goes back to the personal responsibility thing)

Right wing is a term for the mentally lazy. Use conservativism instead to encapsulate my core beliefs:
1.) limited government including a balanced budget, incurring debt only in cases of declared war or national disaster;
2.) insuring the marketplace is regulated to make rules fair to all law abiding entities and punishing business fraud with jail sentences and property liquidation to reimburse victims;
3.) insuring equal law enforcement and punishment according to the criminal acts committed, not the race or economic status of the offender;
4.) insuring s strong military to safeguard Americans here and abroad;
5.) Secure, walled borders with an immigration plan to meet American needs for labor;
6.) sunset reviews of legislation to determine need.

Just my 2 euros.
