"book deal"

Citing her vote on Roe, they claim publishing the book is an "assault on inalienable human rights"

We recognize that harm is done to a democracy not only in the form of censorship, but also in the form of assault on inalienable human rights. As such, we are calling on Penguin Random House to recognize its own history and corporate responsibility commitments by reevaluating its decision to move forward with publishing Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's forthcoming book.

...
Therefore, we believe that moving forward with Coney Barrett's book places Bertelsmann and Penguin Random House both in direct conflict with their own Code of Conduct and in violation of international human rights.
....
We the undersigned have made the decision to stand by our duty of care while upholding freedom of speech. We cannot stand idly by while our industry misuses free speech to destroy our rights.

Roughly 500 members of the literary community published a letter in which they articulated their desire for Penguin Random House to desist from publishing Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's forthcoming book.
Barrett's book reportedly mentions "how judges are not supposed to bring their personal feelings into how they rule," The Guardian reported.

The signatories begin their letter by insisting that they "care deeply about freedom of speech" but declare that it is "imperative" that the publishers "uphold their dedication to freedom of speech with a duty of care."

Acknowledging that "harm is done to a democracy not only in the form of censorship," the authors of the letter then assert that publishing Barrett's book would constitute an "assault on inalienable human rights."

Of course, the "inalienable human rights" the signatories cite are centered on the right to abortion. They aver that Barrett, by repealing Roe v. Wade in conjunction with Justices Alito, Roberts, Kavanaugh, Thomas, and Gorsuch was "dismantling protections for the human rights to privacy, self-determination, and bodily autonomy along with the federal right to an abortion in the United States."

The signatories then buttress their argument by referencing "international human rights organizations" that condemned the Supreme Court for striking down Roe v. Wade. They proclaim that Barrett is "inflicting her own religious and moral agenda upon all Americans while appropriating the rhetoric of even-handedness."

Hundreds of publishing staffers have signed an open letter calling on Penguin Random House to axe Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's $2 million book deal because she voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Barrett's book deal with Sentinel, an imprint of Penguin Random House that focuses on conservative content, was first reported in April 2021. Politico reported at the time that Barrett had a deal for a book about how judges should avoid letting their decisions be impacted by personal feelings.

I couldn't invent a dumber nor less self-aware character than what evolution has already created in the modern liberal. Bravo journalists and authors. When someone says "it doesn't matter, they'll just invent a bigger idiot" I say nah-ah, nothing tops a liberal.

Staff - take out the trash.

Well this only has to sell about 300,000 copies to recoup that. I doubt is a NYT best seller but it'll easily cover that.

Not only did the publisher get a free National ad for the book, but they now know exactly who will purchase the first 500 copies - just to see what she wrote.

So they want to cancel the 1st amendment, right of free speech, in the Constitution, to compensate for a "right" that is not specifically granted in the Constitution.

Makes sense for a liberal, I guess...

They support free speech when they agree with the author.

If you don't like the book, don't buy it. Hope is that hard?

A lot of these publishers seem to actually be money laundering operations and means to get around bribery laws based on some of the questionable deals they make with political persons. You do the bidding of the corporate backers of the conglomerate that owns the publisher, you get a big fat book deal that may never be a net positive return on the basis of sales. Of course, they have to mix that in with legitimate business to stay afloat and not be too obvious. It's really weird.

I despise these dewshes not trying to argue on the merits, but rather attempting to personally punish those that disagree with them.

Once this was brought to my attention I started to see the trend. It's significantly less noticable than speaking fees, and many of these books are ghost written.

Book deal, especially for a politician, is basically code for kickback.

Doubtful

It will probably be on Edelweiss and Net Galley beforehand. They probably put out a couple hundred advanced reader copies as well.

Most politician's books are sold in bulk to foreign buyers/companies. It's just a big money laundering scheme to make politicians rich.

What a bunch of crap. That is akin to saying I don't discriminate unless it is a left handed person. Just like putting "Family Friendly" in front of an event does not mean it is.
