We recognize that harm is done to a democracy not only in the form of censorship, but also in the form of assault on inalienable human rights. As such, we are calling on Penguin Random House to recognize its own history and corporate responsibility commitments by reevaluat<e>ing its decision to move forward with publishing Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's forthcoming book.

I couldn't invent a dumber nor less self-aware character than what evolution has already created in the modern liberal. Bravo journalists and authors. When someone says "it doesn't matter, they'll just invent a bigger idiot" I say nah-ah, nothing tops a liberal.

Staff - take out the trash.

Well this only has to sell about 300,000 copies to recoup that. I doubt is a NYT best seller but it'll easily cover that.

Maybe they can cost her some up front money but I think there is someone who will publish it.

I wonder who..........

Not only did the publisher get a free National ad for the book, but they now know exactly who will purchase the first 500 copies - just to see what she wrote.

So they want to cancel the 1st amendment, right of free speech, in the Constitution, to compensate for a "right" that is not specifically granted in the Constitution.

Makes sense for a liberal, I guess...

They support free speech when they agree with the author.

If you don't like the book, don't buy it. Hope is that hard?

A lot of these publishers seem to actually be money laundering operations and means to get around bribery laws based on some of the questionable deals they make with political persons. You do the bidding of the corporate backers of the conglomerate that owns the publisher, you get a big fat book deal that may never be a net positive return on the basis of sales. Of course, they have to mix that in with legitimate business to stay afloat and not be too obvious. It's really weird.

I despise these dewshes not trying to argue on the merits, but rather attempting to personally punish those that disagree with them.

Once this was brought to my attention I started to see the trend. It's significantly less noticable than speaking fees, and many of these books are ghost written.

Book deal, especially for a politician, is basically code for kickback.

I thought the Democracy was at risk of being destroyed if/when a GOPer wins the White House? You know, democracy, and that whole Freedom of Speech thing that you are trying to squash because it hurts feelings.

I'm guessing Penguin will listen to the whiners and not publish this.

Doubtful

It will probably be on Edelweiss and Net Galley beforehand. They probably put out a couple hundred advanced reader copies as well.

Most politician's books are sold in bulk to foreign buyers/companies. It's just a big money laundering scheme to make politicians rich.

The signatories begin their letter by insisting that they "care deeply about freedom of speech" but declare that it is "imperative" that the publishers "uphold their dedication to freedom of speech with a duty of care."

What a bunch of crap. That is akin to saying I don't discriminate unless it is a left handed person. Just like putting "Family Friendly" in front of an event does not mean it is.
