and at a burn rate of approx 1 gallon/hr - $2000 for 300 hours of heat.

I've known several guys his age over the last few years who started talking nonsense but really believed what was coming out of their mouths. And were very insistent. A few years earlier, they would never have slipped up like that. He has lost his mind.
