Among them were the top two highest-ranking leaders of the Texas Rangers.

Those officers were Chief Chance Collins and his second in command Assistant Chief Bryan Burzynski.

KXAN reviewed DPS officer records from TCOLE and learned Collins and Burzynski are among at least 79 DPS officers, including a regional director, who have left or retired in the months following the Uvalde school shooting on May 24.

KABB, the FOX affiliate in San Antonio, obtained an internal email from Collins to staff in September.

It didn't explain why he was leaving, but he said he did not want to have a formal ceremony.

A reporter asked Gov. Greg Abbott directly about whether that mention of political influence may be connected to the Rangers' investigation of the Uvalde response.

Reporter: You know Chance Collins with the Texas Rangers?

Abbott: Right.

Reporter: He recently sent out an email announcing his retirement, um, to his colleagues. And this is the email right here.

Abbott: OK.

Reporter: And I highlighted that line 'without fear, political intimidation or influence.' Uh, was he pressured to retire? Or is he referring to some kind of political influence related to the Uvalde investigation?

Abbott: I have no information about it whatsoever. I've never spoken to him. I have no idea what he's talking about.

Reporter: Do, do you do know him, right? You work with him professionally as head of the Texas Rangers. Did he have any involvement in the Uvalde investigation?

Abbott: So, truly, I have no idea.

Reporter: So, um, he wasn't told to leave? Do you know how key he was in the investigation?

Abbott: Uh, I don't have any recollection of ever talking to him, to be honest.

Governor Greg Abbott today delivered remarks at the Texas Ranger 2023 Bicentennial Kickoff Celebration in Fort Worth. The Governor was joined by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steve McCraw, Texas Ranger Chief Chance Collins, and other law enforcement representatives.

The Governor has never worked with or talked to the the head of the Texas Rangers? He was promoted to the position in 2018. https://www.dps.texas.gov/news/dps-announces-staff-promotions

Department morale must be in the dumps.

Almost certain he means he did not talk to him about resigning/retiring.

If you think this is going to be the magic "we got him!" that is going to propel Beta into the governor's mansion, think again.

Am I getting this right- Abbott saying he has no idea why one of his subordinates is retiring means we should have Beto as governor?

The left has strange thought processes.

Just FYI but ad hominem can be valid

"counterarguments may be made that the target is dishonest, lacks the claimed expertise, or has a conflict of interest. "

Nobody cares. Remember when Perry brushed off a DPS officer for pulling over his driver for speeding? Yeah, nobody else does either, and he was re-elected. Gotcha politics don't work in Texas, pal.
I think that, to be very honest with you, I do believe that we should have rightly believed, but we certainly believe that certain issues are just settled.

I have no idea what is going on here.

So let's derail!

Uvalde is a national and state level stain. From the event itself to the actions following and everything in between. Not a fan of witch hunts but sometimes you just have to make broad erasures when fixing a problem. The institution failed us that day and it needs to be reset on so many levels.

I still have trouble believing the actions of our Texas LEOs that day and subsequent days. I truly do. So I think about it and then I just get mad all over again.

Not part of the policy just that it's typically not considered ad hom to call someone an idiot provided you show reasons for making that determination.

Regardless of politics, the DPS is probably a dumpster fire right now: My LE and judicial sources tell me this DPS captain is extremely effective and he's being targeted with leaks from the Uvalde investigation and about to become a scape goat of DPS Administration https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/20/us/texas-uvalde-dps-investigation-betancourt/index.html

I saw on the evening news tonight that the Uvalde Parents are formerly demanding that the head of the DPS to quit. I am not sure why since he apparently was no where near Uvalde when the shooting happened. Exactly what did he do that warrants his job ? ?

I know that the Senior Officer on scene was the Head of Uvalde School District Police and was calling the shots (that was probably a huge mistake putting the Captain of the Kampus Kops in charge of a active shooter situation). He was out of a job within about a week. I also believe that almost all Uvalde Cops that were there are also unemployed including the police chief. I heard at least one DPS Officer has been disciplined and a couple of others are under investigation. I think several people high up in the school district and the city are also now jobless. I think that the principal of the school is also out. Probably a number of others are out of jobs. I am unsure if the mayor, the city council and school board are still in office but I figure that they are under pressure. Lawsuits are going to be everywhere. I think that the City and School District have already offered up a huge settlement.

I believe that this was a huge screwup and people need to be punished but I think that things have gotten out of hand. Calmer heads and a thorough and honest investigation needs to figure out what happened and who failed. Firing everyone no matter what is a terrible approach.

I also think that this is now politicized and that the grieving parents are being used to gut an entire city of leadership at all levels.
