This is why it is always important to check the background of these people. Check what they are involved with, how they grew up, what they are, and everything about them. Eliminating an internal national manufacturing base is suicide from a security point of view. It may make total economic sense to outsource manufacturing in terms of efficiency, but this is how you create class warfare in creating an unemployed class living on entitlements if there are no new created jobs to replace manufacturing. I guess you could argue that Amazon is that niche, but that doesn't create the skills base that participation in manufacturing creates. Additionally, we have exported our business technology to an existential enemy.

I have 20 years in manufacturing here in the US. It is of the most benefit to those with a strong work ethic, common sense, and those who may be lacking some formal education. It disproportionately benefits immigrants and minorities. This is mainly because of other barriers to education that they have, pushing talented people into these roles. It is similar to women up to the 1970's being pushed into teaching due to other limitations on their profession. It made teachers better.

While I don't want to stoop to his idiotic level of racial politics, I will say that in manufacturing, no group has more outliers than white males. On one extreme you have some with a Protestant work ethic and German obsession to detail. On the other you have someone arranging hookers during the lunch break and wearing a Comanche head band around the shop. (Not a chiefs one, something smaller and more practical. Also, states he is not a Comanche.)

This guy doesn't look like he's ever owned a pair of steel toe boots.

Funny my take away was that the 'fetish' for US-based manufacturing is ostensible also very pro-union and exists to serve the lesser uneducated and lower class located outside of the suburbs, which have been primary white, especially north of the Mason-Dixon line. And unions havent always been great with race or gender issues (again especially north of the Mason-Dixon line). That changed a lot in the 80s when unions needs as many bodies as possible to feed the machine.
