California Set to Ban All Gasoline Cars by 2035

All new cars sold in California by 2035 will have to be zero emission under plans set to be adopted by the state this week, as the biggest economy in the United States drives a nationwide evolution away from fossil fuel.

Proposals to be debated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) this week will formalize targets set by Governor Gavin Newsom -- and will likely prod other states in the same direction.

The plans, which board member Daniel Sperling recently told CNN he was "99.9%" confident would be adopted, also include incremental steps mandating more than a third of 2026 car sales in the state be zero emission, and over two-thirds by 2030.

Can we split yet? These people are insane and idiotic.

Will they still be able to go to another state, buy a gas powered car, and take it back to California?

It would seem to me that if they didn't, it would be an unconstitutional restraint of trade.

How about trucks and farm equipment?

I wonder how far a tractor can pull a set of nobles or a tandem disk on a single charge.

Some may not know what a set of nobles looks like:

Even if we did split, California is a massive economy in it's own right that car manufacturers will still want to sell to. Hence, more and more manufacturers are going to trend in the electric direction. Like it or not, it's coming. Look at Dodge.

Question is, will you be able to find a gas station?

Will Californians be able to find enough charging stations? Or will all the apartment/condo tenants run extension cords out to their EV's?

Split?
We all need to buy land just outside their state borders for all the car dealerships we are going to open.

Or, hear me out here, we let them dig their own grave. Just because their grave has a good view doesn't mean we should dig our own grave in solidarity.

If this comes to pass (and I doubt it will), I'd want to own an interest in a car dealership in Las Vegas, and sell gas powered cars to all the Californians who can't afford the EV lifestyle.

It's not a question of joining California or not, it's a question of what car manufacturers are going to do in the next 10-20 or so years. Like the decision by Dodge.

If there are no more gas powered cars to buy, you have no choice. And right now, that's the trend I'm seeing.

they can't even power the state on a good day but expect to power the massive influx of demand from all the electric vehicles?

I'm sure they will make it exorbitantly expensive to register a new gasoline vehicle at that point as well (and probably increase on old). so once again, it will only hurt the middle to lower income brackets.

This. There will still have to be gas stations because farm and heavy equipment will need it, but demand would drop significantly, the number of fuel stations would dwindle and the price will go up significantly.

ZERO emission huh, so the electricity for the EV will be generated by nuclear, wind, solar (or out of state)?
