Part of the facade of social media is selling a fake existence. It might be true in her case, but that is not reality for the vast majority of workers. Unfortunately, people lap up this bs, and it breeds discontentment.

F me. Jeez this country would fall apart in about 15 minutes if the real world just stopped making things run.

It's like watching Hunger Games in real life.

I say that as someone who doesn't have to work hard. But I still got up at 2:45 this morning to go to the airport. I'll visit customers all day, followed by note taking in my field trials at a local farm, and then a flight out in the morning to attend a meeting and coach soccer on Thursday.

I'm still aware enough to know I have it easy.

Does the airline at least hook you up with a fresh eucalyptus towel?

She is in sales & marketing, but if you look at her actual experience - it is underwhelming. Still, I'd say she will do well in the current environment.

I bet the actual workers in tech (developers, project folks) laugh at videos like this representing their typical day.

This is how a many young marketing folks operate. Maybe not to this extreme, but for many its a day of parties and events while the ops folks, engineers, etc. actually make the company run. No parties for them. The funny thing is she is "in the office" and playing all day. The C Suite guys all seem to think that doesn't happen if people are in the office and not remote.

I looked at her personal webpage and its pretty delusional. How is a woman just out of college with less than 2 years work experience going to "kickstart" anyone's career or help young females navigate the business world? She knows absolutely nothing about the business world because she hasn't had time to experience it herself. Do people fall for this BS?

Here is my rose colored glasses devil's advocate view:

Experienced or not, this woman will be relatable to college girls.
"OMG Becca, my friend Kourtney the TriDelt talked to her and she was like, totally cool and literally gave her a bunch of good info, you should totally call her"
This is her market, not serious business people, medical professionals or engineering types.

She seems to be pretty personable & marketing savvy. She is confident & putting herself out there. From what I have seen of young people, there is a large cohort that is fully content to live in their parent's house, not get a driver's license and forestall adulthood.
Her young clientele may not get any real info, but (looking on the very much bright side here) maybe she will inspire some to engage in growing up.

In 15-20 years perhaps they'll be battled hardened professionals working 60+ hours per week, snorting coke in the bathroom between multi-million dollar deals and vacationing in the Maldives.

The toughest part of her day was that super long walk to Whole Foods.

And my 7 year old son is about to pay for $10k of her student loan debt.

These fake jobs are just adult daycare for a certain type of woman. They also function as a form of patronage for a politically reliable demographic.

All the while the real work is done by normal dudes and H1B immigrants.

Reminds me of half the people at a company I worked for.

All she is missing is a link to PP and AOC's green new deal. Unfortunately this girl will probably be somewhat successful in her career simply because of her Marxist socialist ideology not because she's worth anything of value to society.

Yes you are.

Rachel, Monica, Joey and Phoebe all complained about not having money all the time. Ross and Chandler (who covered for Joey) were the only ones with steady jobs that did not seem to have issues. Later Rachel did find real jobs and Monica was a chef and eventually opened her own place (with financial help from Chandler). Monica and Rachel lived in their grandma's rent controlled apartment (which is the only reason they could afford it). In fact even Phoebe took a job with a corporation (which she hated) b/c the reality of having to pay bills/rent hit her in the face.

Also, it was a sitcom. We were not going to see their work life.

My niece (30 yr old, old-school work ethic) works in the cosmetic industry in Atlanta. She runs the company's social media dept which is enormously important in that industry. Her dept is made up of around 12 people, all female, from 22 yrs old to her the oldest. She tells unbelievable stories on the interview process as she tries to find a new hire. Younger girls, with a variety of college degrees, but mostly marketing, expect in general:

Full time work but no more than 35 or so hours
Work-from-home from day one
LOTS of vacation time, 4-6 weeks from the get-go
Free stuff from the company to rain on them (this one does happen)
No real start time in the morning, you get in when you get in

And these are the ones that HR already sifted through to weed out the bad ones...?

Niece is amazed how up-front these girls are in their interview process about their expectations. She is thankful they don't lie too much this way she doesn't have to hire and then fire when the don't perform.

So many of our problems boil down to this. Social media creates this false perception of how great everyone else's life is - because that's what they are desperately trying to show others.

It leads to nothing but unrealistic expectations, and then to mental stress and depression when one's life isn't anything like what they see on social media.

That's a major contributor to our mental health crisis.
