Good job Houston.

It makes sense. Think about the level of brainpower from anyone on the receiving end of a buy-back program

Educate me. How much does it cost to print a gun? I have never looked into the costs of materials, etc.

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

I'm taking notes. Always looking for a supplemental income stream. This could have potential.

Judging by the apparent size, probably 15-20 bucks in PLA filament. Just my estimate.

I'm guesstimating they likely made ~$75-$100 per gun depending on a number of factors. 3D printer price, resin (print material) price, etc.

I would'nt be shocked to find out that some probably weren't even fully functional but weren't inspected that closely when there are x62.

based on that guys research (sounds like he has a 3d printer, or used on before) about $10 on the high end. Maybe $15 if you get really detailed. But a box of 50 would be about a $2000 pay day assuming they are considered non functioning and $7000 if considered functioning (based on Houston buy back pricing)

The biggest issue is that each gun could take several hours to print. So you need some lead time.

Ya'll missed the comments where this guy really thought this out...

The total for the guns stayed below the $10,000 threshold for reporting to the IRS!

The authorities are going to use this as proof the streets are rife with ghost guns and take the opportunity to try and ne heavy handed. They probably can't pat themselves on the back hard enough.

Well he made $9,300 in revenue, so I assume it costs less than that.

I'm torn on this. On one hand I completely support making a mockery of the buy back event (as well as making some $$$). On the other hand, every dem blowhard will be spouting out about how many ghost guns have been taken off the street when in reality, there isn't a single thug in Houston that is 3D printing a gun to hold up the corner gas station.

Also, I'm fairly positive that HPD wasn't test firing any of the guns turned in. I'm curious how they made the determination as to whether or not a gun was functional. If you pulled the trigger and heard a hammer strike was that sufficient? My point is, I would bet a decent amount of money that most if not all of those 3D printed guns would never truly function as a firearm. But if all you needed was a trigger that went *click* and a barrel to increase your pay day, that would seem to be a pretty big loophole. But I guess when the intent was never to actually remove guns from the criminals, but to only make a photo-op...

About 3$-5$ in plastic then maybe an equal amount for the screws and pins. To get the full $150 these had to be operational so a metal barrel would have to have been included so perhaps another $20-$30 for that.

I don't know if I would bank on them even being operational. I don't think HPD was test firing anything.

At an average shop overhead rate of $100/ hour. So, they're losing money. 3D printing is a slow process.

If on the other hand those parts were scrap for being out of spec, in which case they're way ahead by getting anything for them vs throwing them away.

I'm guessing the guy already has a printer farm for a side gig and decided to turn over a couple of day's production to this

Ghost guns eliminated from future 'No questions asked' gun buyback events in Houston

The city and county collected 845 guns on Saturday and gave out $100,000 worth of cash gift cards ranging from $50 to $200 apiece. They collected rifles and handguns, old and newer, some of which Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said were merely an effort to take advantage of the offer. Roughly 50 of those guns were so-called ghost guns, and they won't be part of the program in the future.

"We did get some ghost guns where people may have 3D printed or made these guns specifically for the gun buyback program," Turner told ABC13. "We will eliminate that portion."

sounds like Sly got mad the money didn't get to his buddies.

Amazing how "ghost guns" go from the biggest thread on the planet to not a thread at all.

I can make a functioning firearm from pipe, a ball bearing, and a hammer.

I guess this was a missed opportunity depending on the price of pipe.
