We all know the overwhelming majority of monkeypox cases are sexually transmitted.

Though a very small portion of cases are children they are large enough to be a huge red flag. Yes it is possible for them to get it in a non sexual way but I would assume any other STD showing up in a child would be investigated by the proper authorities as should any of these cases.

It's not like HIV. Easiest way to spread is through body fluids but it is not the only way.

It can spread through prolonged close proximity and contact with infected surfaces, just not very well.

It's actually not really all that contagious compared to most other infectious viruses.

We report 528 infections diagnosed between April 27 and June 24, 2022, at 43 sites in 16 countries. Overall, 98% of the persons with infection were gay or bisexual men, 75% were White, and 41% had human immunodeficiency virus infection; the median age was 38 years. Transmission was suspected to have occurred through sexual activity in 95% of the persons with infection.

Almost zero infections happen outside of sexual activity.
