they call it progress, but they have only progressed faster and faster towards socialism despite how poorly that typically seems to work out for everyone else throughout history.

My elevator speech to people about the shift goes like this:

If you took 1996 Bill Clinton and put him into a time machine and brought him to today he would be a Republican.

If you took 1963 JFK and put him into a time machine and brought him to today he would be considered a far right Republican.

Now if you took Donald Trump and put him into a time machine and transported him back to 1996 he would be a Democrat. Oh wait, you don't need a time machine since Trump was a registered Democrat in the 90's.

In fact, progressive is not a "good" word. It is a neutral word. Unlike improvement, it can have a negative connotation:

"The disease progressed too quick through the body"

"The progressive flooding reach the machinery spaces and the ship was doomed"

"The fire progressed to the point that it was out of control --the town had to be abandoned"

See what I mean?

Hell the state of Texas had exactly one republican governor in the 100 years before GWB was elected.

True, depending upon the context.

The project is progressing would imply that it is going well and getting closer to completion.

Progressiveness in the a Marxist's sense means that things are getting closer to the Marxist imaginary utopia.

Historically Marxism always leads to regression into a brutal totalitarian regime.

Hence when someone claims to be "progressive", the end result of his political beliefs is regression from the radical concepts of individual freedom and liberty to good old fashioned tyranny.

My wife voted for Clinton, twice. Now she votes Republican even though she is still a registered Democrat.

Bill Clinton should have won an Oscar.
