I know many of you kicked Netflix to the curb, but this special is worth a view.

Chappelle was given the honor of having the theater at his old HS-- Duke Ellington school of art, in DC, named after him.

He gives a 45 minute speech about his career and why people both love him, and hate him.

In the end, he flat out proves that he is a constituonalist when it comes to the 1st amendment. He truly believes in freedom of speech and freedom of expression and basically double pimp slaps all the woke-ism that has beaten down comedy.

Worth a watch.

Not a trap question.

I agree. Well worth the watch. A great comment on free expression.

I bet Netflix and all these platforms would sell you the show you want to watch.

How much? $4. $5 I don't give a ****.

Sell me the show I want to watch.

Of course they want you to sign up recurring month to month.

The goal is recurring monthly subscribers. I get that. Thats where the value is. They do the math. I understand that.

The point is, I don't understand how exclusive content makes any sense any more. Its an old dinosaur model and its got to go. This is a boomer business model. The people running this strategy are boomers, or are using the boomer template for the entertainment business, generally.

You want to watch Better Call Saul season 6. Here's $40 for you AMC network.

You want to watch Severance on Apple, here's $45 for your show.

Now this Dave Chappelle special. Here's $5 / $10 for a 45 minute special.

All these networks have got to go ala carte.

There's got to be a legitimate reason they aren't doing this already.

And I think thats where we are headed with major productions.

Youtube people have already done this and are leading the way on pay per episode concept.

The big networks are still fighting over subscribers when the battle is for page views.

Big media is stuck in this coke Pepsi battle for who can make you buy their product out of there vending machine. The machine either sold coke products or it sold and Pepsi Co product. Not both in the same machine.

Tldr; The platforms are gonna be forced by the market to go pay per view, pay per episode, pay per season. The subscription model is old and will be defeated by market forces.

I haven't edited anything other than where spelled "constitutionalist" properly since I fat fingered it.

I seriously want to know what you mean.

I just watched that. Takes a lot for me to sit through something like that. I do appreciate Chappelle's comedy but I'm just not one to stop and watch a routine usually.

I have to say that was amazing, though. So poignant and touching. Good humor sprinkled in but just very touching.

His message about artistic freedom was great.

Technically, not directly. But a growing populace who is super anti-free speech in spirit, and pro silencing or canceling, is threatening to the life of the first amendment. So many of your brethren would fervently support first amendment limiting measures against their opposition. They're your folks, you must be proud.

He's saying that it isn't a first amendment issue because only the government can violate people's free speech rights. Private citizens are free to act like the thought police.

Please ignore that the mobs of woke idiots violently protesting this stuff are funded by big dem donors, and Democrat politicians egg them on, and when the "protestors" riot and cause millions of dollars of damage, Democrat DAs immediately release them so that they can go back to breaking ****, so the private citizen-government distinction that his entire argument hinges upon is far fuzzier than he'll admit. And nevermind that you were trying to talk about society's overall attitude toward and acceptance of free speech (which is often casually referred to as free speech rights). He's got a thread to derail with his stupid technicality!

I'm in D.C. for a summer vacation and ate at the Old Ebbitt Grill yesterday.

The bartender was telling us various stories and one was about how when Dallas Cowboys come in they say "this is our town"; DC.

Well, Dave Chappelle frequently visits and one day he walks by a group of Cowboys and that's what they tell him.

He in return replied, no, D.C. stands for Dave Chappelle.

I totally get what you're saying. But here's where I come down--

You want to bring people over to your side-- to be in your camp-- that's the goal. The first way you do that is to ask them questions. Then talk to them. Maybe you make headway, maybe you don't.

But if you attack them out of the gate, you lose them forever.

DC takes his "talent" way too seriously
if he retired tomorrow life would go on and he 100% does not believe that.

He thinks he's a once in a generation talent. Jerry Seinfeld says HELLO.

I like Dave but just make jokes ,enough about the LWBQ+- no one gives a sht

I was glad to see him stick to his guns. When I saw it was a speech and not a standup routine I was worried that he would spend the time "rehabbing" his image with the Left. He did not do that at all. I especially liked how he said the students that protested against him were themselves unwitting instruments of oppression.

I thought it was an incredible speech.

Dave Chapelle is a once-in-a-generation talent.

He did give the mega pimp slap to the woke losers and cancel culture in the end.

I love watching Chappelle. He's one of THE funniest comedians out there. He makes fun of whites, blacks, and just about every race/ethnicity in between. The dude is FUNNY.

You are arguing a technicality.

First Amendment, Cancel Culture, and the grey areas on the topic are all sort of in the same bucket of conversation. It is in the same bucket because some of the people you vote for proudly stand on the opinion that "hate speech" should not be protected by the first amendment, even though it is.

Dave expressed his opinions in an art form in the Closer and kids at his old school didn't like it and told him they didn't. When he asked them what they had a problem with, their responses made him sad because these kids didn't come up with their opinions on their own, and they are being used as tools of oppression to make dave shut up with his opinions. And he won't.

As far as the closer commentary, It was the most-watched special in the history of comedy specials. It essentially netted Dave $24.1 million to call into question the absurdity of the Alphabet soup LGBT culture and it was funny (as all his work is).

You should actually watch The Closer, it's very funny and then you won't look foolish when you comment.
