This is a civil discussion where both men were interested in what the other had to say without getting into a knock down-drag out. Worth a watch.

Watching that brings back such good memories. But also in hindsight, it becomes clear why the MSM and establishment so disliked him and kept running him down.

I love when he alludes to "some aren't going to like this but..."

Watching that I am convinced that politicians have become really dumb. The intelligence and knowledge that those two display is great. Reagan was and is right about us becoming very lonely in the world.

And yet Reagan was derided as dumb by the left. Clark Clifford called him an amiable dunce whose ideas shouldn't be taken seriously. Clifford is worth considering because he was a prototype for the concerned moderates of today.

Clifford was a favorite of Washington insiders that had been an advisor to JFK and was a voice that middle America (a.k.a. Regan Democrats) were told they should trust. Shortly after Reagan left office elder statesman Clark Clifford had to plead senility when he was embroiled in the Bank of Credit & Commerce International (BCCI) collapse and corruption scandal. Clifford wasn't senile, just a swamp rat caught in the spotlight. Romney, McConnell, Flake, Kinzinger, Cornyn, and the rest of the concerned moderates are exactly the same type of creatures today that Clifford was in his day.

How do you think Biden would do compared to Reagan in this interview ? On a scale of 1 to 10, Reagan a 10, Biden a minus 3

While I agree with your first sentence, I think the bigger problem is the voters. They have no clue about what's happening politically or why.

And don't forget the 14 million bureaucrats

I wish we would have used those comments when Biden was campaigning.

A few things:

1. Reagan was so effective at calmly, but firmly, communicating his point. I can see why the Left hated him. He could neutralize them with very little effort.

2. Carson was a class act. He welcomed everyone. The late night hosts of today like Kimmel and Colbert are bitter hacks and it comes across when they get political. They don't have nearly the class or talent of Johnny.

3. It's the greatest irony that the Dems cover so much for Biden, who is clearly not of sound mind and incapable of effectively holding office. Yet it was the Dems who pushed that same narrative (and falsely) against Reagan.

I agree detmer and paul. I didn't want to get to far into it. To me comparing that conversation, though it may be rehearsed a little, and I'm sure they knew what they were going to talk about, to todays bs we hear is miles apart.

The media labeled Reagan as a dumb cowboy that would start WWIII. And when Reagan's policies sped the collapse of the Soviet Union, the same media refused to give Reagan the credit for it.

Reagan drove the media crazy because he was able to use charm and humor to disarm his detractors.

The media called George H W Bush a wimp. WWII aviator, flew 58 combat missions, was awarded the DFC, and was shot down. Critique his policies all you want (I have a few) but the man was no wimp.

George W Bush was called stupid (despite having better grades in college than Gore), a daddy's boy, and an illegitimately appointed president.

Trump was attacked for everything, some of it earned.

The media will do the same to DeSantis, you can count on it. The dem candidate is always fawned over, and the Republican demonized by the media. Every Single Election.

Is an overstatement to describe him as a policy genius?
