That is going to help energy cost inflation in the US in the short term.

Maybe biden will start yelling about this too. Isn't it weird how a lot of critical infrastructure seems to be burning down these days?

This is actually a positive for US, as it limits how much nat gas can leave the country and has brought the price of nat gas down about $1/mmbtu.

But the plant will be back up in about 2 weeks per press reports.

Had someone mention this over the weekend that a family member who lives down there was telling them about it but I forgot to check into it.

Is it totally offline?

What? No. If anything this means we are exporting less and now have more natural gas for our plants in Texas.

It is an export facility, not power generation. It's offline for another 2 weeks from loading LNG tankers of nat gas to Europe.

That's not really how it works with contractual obligations in O&G. You can delay to a point but you still have to provide.

Update: restart in September, full restart YE. This will prevent about 20% of natural gas capacity from being exported, meaning more natural gas here and lower prices for Americans.

Quote:

June 14 (Reuters) - Freeport LNG, one of the largest operators of liquefied natural gas export plants in the United States,on Tuesday said last week's fire damage to its Texas plant would keep it fully offline until September with only partial operation through to the year end.

How do you figure

Power plants use mostly nat gas and coal to spin the turbines.

This doesn't impact production or supply of natural gas to US power plants. In fact it may lower prices as mentioned above.

Seems like we are losing 1-3 major food processing facilities to fire/explosion each week.
