Showing some empathy is a good thing for his run in 2024.

"Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags at local and state buildings be flown at half-mast in remembrance of the sixth anniversary of the 2016 Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando.

"Six years ago, on June 12, 2016, a shooter claiming allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant committed a horrific act of terrorism against the LGBTQ and Hispanic communities at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando," DeSantis wrote. "At the time, it was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history."

"As a mark of respect for the victims, their families, and the many affected by this tragedy, I signed the attached Proclamation directing the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida," he said. …"

He lowered the flag to honor the victims of a terrorist attack, not to recognize the alphabet community.

Saying nothing but the truth, and without making a point of trying to squirt lemon juice in the eyes of anyone.

He's going to have the best 8 years.

The thread title is completely misleading. DeSantis honored the victims of terrorism, which is completely appropriate.

Look at the OP's posting history and you'll understand the thread title.

It's to try and turn people against DeSantis.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Can't seem to recall who the shooter was. Was it a white, right-wing conservative, nationalist, male?

Trump showed empathy constantly for the gay community but nobody gave him credit for it. He even passed legislation they still didn't give him credit.

He was literally the most gay friendly president we have ever had and the left still bashed him.

Yes his slate if SC justices he nominated and that leaked opinion from Alito and crew look to be a GREAT thing for my people in future years.

This has to be one of the dumbest talking points of Republican Party homers. Go read the platform and get back to me about what a great guy he and the party are for gay people.

Ok. How about you ignore the mountains of evidence showing Republicans do far more for gays than democrats. Goooood boooooyy.

The SC justices he appointed ARE a great thing (at least, compared to what we were getting). Hopefully, future generations that wouldn't be born without them, including those that might have a same sex attraction, will agree.

I'm not concerned with what Trump or anyone else does for a GROUP of people, only ALL Americans. You can take your group-think (in more ways than one) and shove it. Annie's point was spot-on, and it isn't a talking point. We don't work that way.

(A good example of why the left has to rig the game by shutting down speech they don't like rather than responding to it: they don't understand that their political adversaries actually think differently than they do. Its like they can't imagine anyone else with an opinion or a thought process that isn't their own. Thus, argument is useless and force of law -- or whatever other means -- becomes necessary to stop any dissent as their power grab must be protected. This poster is either being conned or in on the grab -- almost certainly the former).

DeSantis Event at Chelsea Piers Faces Backlash Over L.G.B.T.Q. Rights

"The Florida governor who signed the so-called Don't Say Gay bill spoke at a site long connected to the gay rights movement."
Quote:

Now, facing the threat of boycotts and protests outside the event on Sunday, a, the recreation complex finds itself at the center of a pitched dispute that touches on issues of identity, inclusivity, religion and free speech. And it has left Chelsea Piers in a quandary that is in many ways emblematic of the tense and intensely political national conversation around whether people with views that some consider abhorrent or dangerous should be given a platform.

"The bottom line is Chelsea Piers is providing a venue to propagate hate toward the L.G.B.T.Q. community and that is unacceptable on many levels, including that it is Pride and that it is in Chelsea, the heart of the community," said State Senator Brad Hoylman, the Manhattan Democrat who represents the area. He helped lead calls for Chelsea Piers to cancel the event, which also featured speeches by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Ron Dermer, the former Israeli ambassador to the United States.
