If I go to Amazon and search for Enfamil, I get the expected "not available" result. After all there is a shortage and supply chain and Putin and of course TRUMP and Ultra Extreme Maga.

If I switch my location to Canada at the bottom of the screen and do the exact same search I get Enfamil that is available and even ready for same day delivery!

It is almost like a contrived shortage in the US.
Seven and three are ten, not only now, but forever. There has never been a time when seven and three were not ten, nor will there ever be a time when they are not ten. Therefore, I have said that the truth of number is incorruptible and common to all who think. — St. Augustine

This is organized hate. Democrats hate America. A line must be drawn. It is time to "protest". We can not take 2 more years of this shat.

I'm guessing Canadians are able to import baby formula, unlike us Americans.

Maybe they have higher rates of breastfeeding so demand is lower.

Difference in supply chains and retailers. Amazon isn't always selling you formula directly. They more often operate as a middle man and storefront for other retailers/suppliers. American retailers/suppliers are likely limiting their retail sales on Amazon while Canadian suppliers/retailers aren't.

It gets weirder.
Women who don't have babies are getting baby formula in the mail during a formula shortage
Quote:

  • Annika Connor doesn't have a baby, so she was shocked to get a package of Enfamil baby formula.
  • Jen St. Jude said she also received formula she didn't order or request.
  • The marketing practice goes back years, but it raises concerns during a formula shortage.
When a package of Enfamil baby formula was delivered to Annika Connor's home this week, she was confused. The name and address on the package were correct, but Connor doesn't have a baby and had no idea why Mead Johnson, the maker of Enfamil, would send her a gift package containing three canisters of powdered formula and two ready-to-feed bottles.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

It is payback for the Abortion Decision coming from the Supremes

Not weird. Pregnant women are a HUGE market because all things baby are expensive and new moms are not always rational. Brands and retailers want to hook them early because they know those moms are unlikely to change brands once they use one because of status quo bias.

Target kind of started this with a project to analyze big data to identify the habits of pregnant women earlier than their competitors. Once identified, they get targeted coupons for baby products, they get in the store, and they shop at target for all of their baby and household needs. Boom, lots of easy revenue.

They ran into a problem when they sent a coupon mailer to a teen girl in Minnesota (IIRC). Her dad got pissed and had some very unhappy conversations with his local manager about his employer encouraging teen pregnancy. However, Target's algorithm actually nailed it and she was already preggers. Target now camouflages these mailers with standard ads.

Vendors on the other hand can do the same. We got some off these same things before our son was born. If they give you samples and bottles and you get hooked, that minor investment pays off hugely. The algorithms figuring out who to send things to aren't 100% accurate though. They occasionally make mistakes because this is really all just probability. You hear about it now because there's a shortage and people are paying attention. It's an example of the BaaderMeinhof phenomenon, where now that people have taken notice, they overestimate the frequency of some offence ave think it is happening more frequently than previously.

Maybe they had an abortion, and the company is just channeling the Supreme Court now.

The manager apologized and then called a couple days later to apologize again and the dad told the manager he was the one that should be apologizing, that she was due in August. Good on him.

This exactly the answer.

Canada is part of the British Commonwealth which makes it much easier to import baby formula from other countries. Europe in particular has a baby formula surplus.

The USA has corporatist protection laws that ban import for most of the products in the World markets. That's the difference.

The real mind boggling thing here is the Abbott factory was shut down months ago, but it never occurred to anyone in the FDA that they might need to lift import bans on European and South American supplements as a stop gap.

Sorry guys. It my fault. I have been running my bio-fuels SUV on baby formula. Its amazing the gas mileage I get with that stuff.

But since baby formula supplies are running low I am now just using cow's milk and mixing in "nutrients" on my own. The SUV seems to run fine on it...

Too bad Mom's just can't use their own breast milk or cows milk to feed their own babies...

I know your kidding but I believe this is exactly what going on with ethanol. Read some where it actually takes more than a gallon of diesel to produce a gallon of ethanol. Don't know if it's true but this being f16 I'm sure I'll get corrected in 3,2,1…..

My daughter is 100% nursing and is not affected by the infant formula shortage; however, she has friends who have to drive an hour or more to get infant formula for their infants. Those who require a special formula are the ones driving long distances.

I voted for this because I like Mean Tweets!

My guess... These ladies ordered from somewhere online for a baby shower or other gift. That website/merchant then sold their data and got them flagged as new moms.

And yes, there are protectionist laws in place in the US that forbid import. The WH could put a pause on those immediately if they wanted to. The WH could also order to FDA to cut the red tape and get that factory cleared to reopen. They've been shut down by the FDA for 7 months IIRC.
