What were the reactions like when the decision came out originally in 1973? Obviously there was no social media, outside of water cooler talk.

Did it flood the news?

Were there protests?

Did anyone in politics get blacklisted for choosing one side vs the other?

Were there threats and intimidation against SC judges at their homes?

I recall it being a very unpopular decision among the < 0 yr old demographic.

I don't even remember any reaction but then I was too busy working and trying to support a family.

It was certainly not a big newsmaker.

Not old enough then but there were a lot of major events happening during the time the decision was announced:

Nixon inauguration
Watergate investigation
Vietnam War Peace Accord announced
LBJ dies
Apollo 17 moon landing
American League adopts DH

The nation's attention was distracted

I'd imagine that the topic of abortion was too taboo to cover in the news markets that would have cared the most, even if talking about a supreme court decision.

Once we're done with RvW, the DH better be looking over his shoulder.

Not a lot of people were aware of what happened to the baby in utero during the procedure. It was largely opposed by Catholics from the northeast. With imaging, we saw the baby's reaction and moral outrage took root among evangelicals, and that was what moved the meter on its abolition.

I remember those of us on the right were very unhappy with the decision but we did not go BSC because unlike the left today we weren't BSC.

I do remember talking to a Jewish girl who was really glad about the decision and I asked her:

"So you are Jewish, right?"
"Yes."
"So you still think the messiah is coming?"
"Yes"
"How do you know he won't be aborted?"

One of those stories is not like the others...

Former president, and texas governor, dies
Roe v Wade
Student dies
FBI director is going to be on campus
Story about whether or not women should stay on campus.

And a story about men's fashion?

Middle of my PH year. It was big, but the main reaction was stunned disbelief. It came out of the blue and no one was expecting the ruling, to the best of my recollection.

I turned seven in 1973 so don't remember.

At that time I mostly remember Watergate, Patty Hurst and the Vietnam war being on television all the time.

This! It's unAmerican and likely unconstitutional to replace your worst hitter with your worst fielder.

I think that picture of LBJ was taken when he was on campus for General Rudder's funeral. I remember seeing him and thinking he was trying to look like Sam Houston.

January of 1973, I was working for my uncle. He was hiring in those days and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
The person that is not willing to fight and die, if need be, for his country has no right to life.
