We do this frequently in medicine to assess the current state of patients with the disease: ask them their pet's names.

For some reason, this is a remarkable tell for people who are progressing with the disease but don't have all the markers for being unable to function in normal settings. I imagine it has to do with the mixture of short term and long term memory required to remember the names of pets who are less than 15 years a part of their lives. Long enough to expect them to remember, but short term enough to not be committed to their brains as permanent memories (like the names of children or friends).

I wish someone would ask Biden what his dog's name was. It would be interesting to see his response.

Isn't Biden's new dog named "commie"? He should remember that.

Got u homie…thanks for devoting time and effort to raising funds and awareness for such a sad, painful and often overlooked disease. Was really sad and scary as a kid witnessing it up close and personal and seeing what it put my grandfather and mother through.

if only this worked for the name of the second wife.

I'll never forget mine - she loves me despite my shortcomings, and gave me a second chance at joy on this side of Heaven.

Now as far as Joe is concerned, I can't vouch - but thank God for second chances for me.

I sometimes worry about doctors thinking I have Alzheimer's when I can't recognize them.

I've had immense trouble recognizing people all my life. I can learn to recognize people, but it takes a long time and it's often by voice instead of what they look like. Even then, I sometimes don't know who they are.

Once when I was 20 I was looking for my younger brother in a dorm at A&M and walked up to someone and asked him if he had seen my younger brother. It turned out to be my younger brother.

I remember my first dorm party too

Prosopagnosia. If you can remember that word they won't think you have Alzheimer's.

Also, it might help to read Scientific American at the doctor's office.

When I had a colonoscopy, they told me it would take 30 to 45 minutes to recover from the anaesthesia after it was over. So when they wheeled me out of the room where they did it and behind a curtain, I started reading the latest Scientific American to pass the time. Five minutes later, the nurse came by to check on me, saw me reading Scientific American and told me that I had recovered and to get dressed.

Me too, brother! God definitely blessed me the second time around. Almost 23 years together and getting better each year…

Do you have Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, means you cannot recognise people's faces?

Face blindness often affects people from birth and is usually a problem a person has for most or all of their life. It can have a severe impact on everyday life.

I did copy that from looking it up, I couldn't remember the name, but I've heard of it.

That can also work against you too. Sometimes they don't care as much as you think and other times they want this type of person.

I dunno. My Mother is several years into an Alzheimer's diagnosis and she knows her dog's name. She asks me at least a dozen x a day, where's " Buttons"?

At one company in Houston back in the 1980s, one guy kept copies of Al Goldstein's (I think that's the name) Screw magazine in his desk. Whenever someone got called to jury duty, they'd stop by his office to get a copy to read while waiting for the jury selection. Not a one of them was ever picked for a jury.

Yeah. It played hell with me when I was a c.t. It took me forever to learn to recognize my own upper classmen, much less those from other outfits.

I'm pretty good at faking it, though. When I lived in Houston for a while, I just assumed that I didn't know anyone. Back home, I just assume that I know everyone and act accordingly.

One day I went to the Dairy Queen for lunch and there were three older women sitting at a table. So I stopped and talked to them for a few minutes before going to another booth. As I walked away from them, I overheard one of the women say "We must look like someone in (this town). He thought he knew us."
