TLDR: Would be car jacker crosses into Montogomery County from Harris County to continue his crime spree... Gets caught and realizes that he won't be released on Bond like he did in Harris County

Jacoby Devante Smith, 17, of Houston thought he was in Harris County when police stopped him after a carjacking in Shenandoah and two other attempted carjackings. As he was being arrested he even asked what the bond would be and thought he was going to get a PR Bond. At the time he was out on bond in two cases in Harris County. One was carrying a weapon and the other unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was on a $100 bond until he violated a bond condition of not having a weapon. That he screwed up by displaying him holding weapons in a social media post. But the Judge saw fir to giving him a PR Bond and releasing him again. He was out also on a $2500 bond in felony court for unauthorized use but that bond was not revoked. So ventured to Montgomery County and again with a gun which the Harris County Judge told him No-no!!He scared two women as he tried to carjack them then was able to carjack a man in the Main Event parking lot. Today he learned Montgomery County is not Harris County. The Montgomery County District Attorney, Magistrates, and Judges do not act as they do in Harris County. Smith now resides in the Sheriff Rand Henderson Bed and Breakfast with NO BOND!!! It also landed in Judge Patty Maginnis 435th District Court. He is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery (first-degree felony) and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (second-degree felony).

Love to see it. Hope he rots in Montgomery County.

The real criminals are the judges in the Harris County Courts.

Thanks O'dourke.

Until the liberal politicians that are responsible for this start getting gunned down and carjacked, it won't change. I hope the future victims are those politicians and their supporters, not innocent Harris county citizens that did not vote for this insanity.

I had a rural DA tell me about a criminal on a plea driving with police pointing out which houses they robbed, then breaking down in tears after being informed that one of the houses they pointed to was in a different jurisdiction with a judge who gave only max sentences.

What a disgrace in Harris County.
A mayor that has the main plan of asking criminals to chill and a court system who has trained criminals to know they will be back out in the streets fast to do more crimes.

He would've probably gotten no bail in our county too... mostly because someone would've probably shot his ass trying to car jack them.

It used to be that way, with regards to Travis and Williamson County....though WC is starting to look more and more like Travis unfortunately.

Exactly I made sure we bought a house in Montgomery county and not Harris when we moved here. At the time looked at party splits. Montgomery was like 70% Republican

When a county hits 1 million residents, it should be divided by law.

When a city hits 500,000 residents, it should be divided by law.

These provisions need to be in the Texas Constitution.

The boundaries of the new split entities should be determined by the Legislature, signed into law by governor, and require judicial review for approval. Boundaries should follow major thoroughfares (interstates, U.S. or state highways), rivers, coastlines, or distinct subdivision/neighborhood lines within the cities.

This would mean Harris, Dallas, Travis, Bexar, Tarrant, El Paso, and Collin would be divided administratively.
This would also mean the cities of Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, and El Paso would be divided into separate entities. Houston turn into 6 cities, San Antonio into 4, Dallas into 3, Austin into 3, Fort Worth into 2, and El Paso into 2.

Local government gets to a point where it is TOO LARGE to effectively serve the needs of the people.

I think Williamson flips back at least in the 2022 cycle.

The Hispanic vote shift alone is enough there.

Not sure over long term.

I was about to mention the same thing. I remember a story about a perp who broke down in tears when he learned that he got caught on the Williamson side of the county line. Now Wilco just wants to groom kids.

Limiting Congressional districts to a certain number of people is another idea being floated around. Theory being it would make them more representative and responsive to their constituents. Would require a lot more Congressmen and would also require a Constitutional amendment .

If you are convicted of a crime while out on bail from one county, that county should have to pay the cost of your incarceration.

Montgomery County is the people's county and operates the way a civil, law-abiding society should operate. Shout out to Judges Patty Maginnis, Jennifer Robin, Vince Santini, and the other phenomenal judges in that county who uphold the rule of law. I would move there if I could.

It gets me so angry that judges so obviously don't give a crap about protecting citizens. Maybe there should be a rule that if a judge releases a violent criminal, then that criminal must spend at least one week with the judges family without supervision and with promised immunity to any crime committed during that week.

We need judges that follow the law, and respect the law abiding citizens in their jurisdiction. Stop releasing the wolves, dirtbags!

Well, he was out on bond for weapon possession and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Is that something other than auto theft? Granted the bond was too low, but those are much lesser crimes than carjacking. What sort of bond would he have gotten for carjacking in Harris County?

As a resident of Montgomery County, this makes me happy.

500 to 3000 depending on the Judge and how liberal their were feeling that day.

Harris County justice system is a joke and the criminals know it.

By the way... those 300 inmates that were released because the" system was down", wouldn't had happened if Harris County kept the old booking/releasing system up and running. JWEB is a complete joke and OMS is Microsoft nightmare.

Sold my house in Harris county two weeks ago and bought in Montgomery county. Fortunately I work in the woodlands so I shaved 5 min off my commute and went from a 15,000 sqft lot to 6 acres.

This story warms my heart.

the ****ing idea people, is we are supposed to execute real criminals after conviction after a fair trial, and you leave everyone else the **** alone.

I like what I've seen of Judge Maginnis . Seems like a really good person.

I went to jury duty last year in her court. Didn't get picked but the case had some similarities. Harris County resident that was the driver I believe for a convenience store robbery in MoCO. Dunno how it turned out.

Plenty of stupid still happens in Montgomery county. It's usually on the other side of the equation convicting the not guilty or overcharging/over punishing especially the poor kids.

Rich kids almost always walk with no punishment. This is from my own personal experience. The charges were felony charges that shouldn't have been felony charges.

The run-on sentences in your post should be felony charges.
