Anyone observing Ramadan? That's some incredible mental and physical fortitude.

When I was stationed in the Sinai for a year I saw the Egyptian workers take part in Ramadan in the blistering hot sun. Absolutely no Natural shade there either.

I like the concept of Ramadan of not eating from sunup to sundown. I don't know a lot about the religious significance, but there's a lot of practical benefit in fasting. When's the last time a typical American went 4 waking hours without eating?

I would rather the Catholic Church went with fasting on Fridays versus no red meat. It's become a joke going to all you can eat seafood buffets.

I'm heading to Egypt in two weeks. We'll be working outside along side local laborers that will still be observing Ramadan. No clue how they do that safely.

Don't observe it but am conscious of it as I have several close friends and associates that are practicing Muslims who have begun their fasts. My POA and Executer is one and contacted her this morning to wish her well. It is a difficult and enlightening month for them and one I wouldn't have the fortitude or dedication to consider.

Isn't that a bit of a conflict of interest?

Ramadan isn't as great for the waistlines of its observants as you might expect. The iftar (end of day meal) is often quite the pig out.

Minus the pig, of course.

Some poster used to post the Ramadan Bombathan threads to count the number of people killed and beheaded by the religion of peace during Ramadan. I miss that thread.

It's the perfect liberal holiday for the perfect liberal religion.

Although I probably had heard of Ramadan during social studies, it is true that the first time I really became aware of it was because of Hakeem playing during Ramadan and the announcers always talking about it, and if he was playing during the day, he was probably going against Jordan, Robinson or Barkley.

Islam liberal? Clearly you have no clue what you are talking about.

Women are kept at home. It's haram (forbidden) to engage in homosexual behavior, families still pick their son's future brides and vice versa, women have to be fully covered.....I could go on and on. Its anything but liberal and quite conservative.

Libs in this country love the religion and they love the holiday, thus my comment. I guess they don't understand their own ideology.

They do slightly less work than the close to zero amount of work they do when they're not fasting.

Remember those Calculus problems where the limit approaches zero?

Ahhh. Yes. I can agree with that statement. Same crowd of people who hate America and want to leave. I'd happily take them to the Middle East so they can celebrate. And they can stay over there. You'll instantly know how great we have it in the US The libs in this country will say it for some hashtags and retweets.

However, I am probably in a limited population where I say it out of respect for actual friends that practice said religion and live over there. It meant the world to them when I acknowledged it and wished them well in Ramadan.

I've lost 20 lbs since January with intermittent fasting and keto. Pretty much conditioned to fast at this point.

Pretty easy to do now.

When I mention fasting to people that have never tried it they look at me like I'm crazy. They literally think you'll die if you go 24 hours without eating.

I wish Muslims and conservatives could find a way to ally against the white liberal.

Lived in Dubai through two Ramadans. My favorite Ramadan memory was hiding in a Dubai Mall bathroom stall drinking water from the bottle I was carrying in my purse. I'd been there less than a month and was sure that I'd be arrested if I was seen drinking in public. Within a few days I realized we were surrounded by expats and Emirati teenagers who were doing exactly the same thing and no one really cared. It was still a drag, but I attended some amazingly over the top iftar gatherings hosted by friends who were practicing Muslims, but the cool kind who would serve alcohol and sometimes even pork, even though they didn't partake.

In the 70s and 80s, we would take a ladies bus to go shopping in Al-Khobar. We would have to crouch down inside the bus to sneak water during the day. Fun times.

Hell no. They hate me and we would never even find ourselves in a basic social interaction. I see them on occasion and we mutually despise each other. But not nearly as much as we despise what the white liberal pushes and promotes. I feel far more kinship with radical Muslims than white liberals and it's not even close.
