the state hasn't required gas providers to weatherize - and it also hasn't finished that map of which places need to continue to get electric power during blackout events.

These threads are like the regular text messages from Beta supporters.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

The tax payer of course

We also get to pay for all the useless windmills that Abbott bought

Nonetheless I'm fairly impressed op finally made a thread about something other than trivial Trump bs

Can they? Most of the weatherized gas storage we had was taken down around 2014-15 due to Obama EPA regulations.

This paragraph is a complete lie.

Think instead about the underlying problems that made it possible for the grid to fail in February 2021, killing at least 246 Texans and leaving millions more without heat and light during a polar vortex that lasted almost a week.

Not shocked that the Texas tribune would continue to lie

The Texas grid is not prepared for the entire state to be below freezing for a week. Guess what? It never will be.

That's really the kicker. Dems were praying hard for Feb ice storms to be anywhere near what happened last year because if they can't put all the blame of your power going out on the current admin, all they have to cry about on their campaign is having to leave the state to kill babies.

The grid held up during the only real widespread freeze this winter, weather that wasn't as severe as the 2021 storm. And if the state remains on track, it should have rules for weatherizing natural gas facilities next fall.
Seems like the bottom line of the article and sounds to me like we've made progress. This should have been the lead and a basic status update type of article.

I never expected that the entire grid would get upgraded and weatherized within 1 year of that storm. Was that even physically possible or logical factoring limited resources and people?

Maybe op and his ilk get off their ass and prepare, buy a couple more blankets, long johns, case of water, extra loaf of bread and some tuna and other things that require no cooking. Maybe actually look in on the widow down the street. Take an old to ac during heat spell not a whole of effort. OP would rather piss and moan.

The Texas Grid is still independent of the national grid. I am glad we didn't change over after the problems in 2021.

Lubbock got added this year too (There was a big portion of NW TX that was not on ERCOT). Just looks like being more prepared for Texit to me...

At least the Beto-bot texts have some effort put into the messaging.

OP just hides behind articles and tweets...can't articulate the actual policies the democrats want.

Not just weatherization -- more akin to installing a retractable roof because it might rain for 1 of the 81 home games per year. All of that equipment has to stay "summarized" because we have that hot and heavy for a long stretch of every year.

Unless, of course, having your electric bill quintupled is something you want.

Winterizing is not cost prohibited. $20,000 - $50,000 per well. All wells probably don't need to be winterized.

Seems I heard recently that winterization has made considerable progress, but that some exemptions were made for operations under a certain dollar threshold because of costs. Also that the overall grid would be secure even with the exceptions. I don't recall where I heard that, but it seems to contradict the article.

Besides, is anyone really worried about a repeat of the last event? Not me. It isn't anywhere close to being on my election concerns radar screen despite the OP's paid shill efforts to make it one.

I bet OP FREAKED when Ted Cruz went to Mexico during a bad cold front, instead of going door to door to help people wrap their pipes and repair busted plumbing, and thought it was the mother of all "scandals". I have always thought it was silly to accuse certain posters of being paid agents of the left or other countries, but JMiller makes me open to the possibility. If so, ze is definitely completely wasting zir time here, as there are ZERO potential converts...which is a good thing...as ze could be proselytizing elsewhere where people are more vulnerable or impressionable.

Regulators in many parts of the country are attempting to further speed the build-out of renewable energy in response to concerns about climate change. A number of states have enacted mandates to eliminate carbon emissions from the grid in the coming decades, and the Biden administration has set a goal to do so by 2035.
The pace of change, hastened by market forces and long-term efforts to reduce carbon emissions, has raised concerns that power plants will retire more quickly than they can be replaced, creating new strain on the grid at a time when other factors are converging to weaken it.

Curt Morgan, CEO of Vistra Corp. , which operates the nation's largest fleet of competitive power plants selling wholesale electricity, said he is worried about reliability risks in New York, New England and other markets as state and federal policy makers pursue ambitious goals to quickly phase out fossil fuel-fired power plants. His concern is that the plants will retire before replacements such as wind, solar and battery storage come online, he said, given the cost and challenge of quickly building enough batteries to have meaningful supply reserves.

"Everything is tied to having electricity, and yet we're not focusing on the reliability of the grid. That's absurd, and that's frightening," he said. "There's such an emotional drive to get where we want to get on climate change, which I understand, but we can't throw out the idea of having a reliable grid."

https://www.wsj.com/articles/americas-power-grid-is-increasingly-unreliable-11645196772

I am glad Texas did not join some states in mandating the elimination of carbon emissions from the grid. It is much more important to focus on the reliability of the grid than respond to the emotional drive about climate change.
