No see, anything good that happens in a Dem administration is 100% their doing (even the stuff a president has no actual control over) but anything bad that happens is the fault of the last Republican administration

Bro do you even MSM?!

F* Belarus, F* Putin, F* Me, F* Everybody

An updated version of Mike Leach's famous victory rant at Baylor in 2009. I thought it applicable in this case.

With exception of the Cuban missile crisis is this the only other time a world leader has put the use of nuclear force on the table?

And to do so on day 4 of what started as a two nation spat!?!

I keep telling myself there's simply no way they'd be that stupid…but a small part of me also knows humans aren't always rational

Agreed.... I sincerely pray that putin doesn't go that route. Would signify the beginning of WWIII.

One step closer to Russia annexing Belarus, just like the Germans did to Austria in 1938. Putin is trying to rebuild the USSR

Probably Boris Johnson or the German PM or some EU figure will emerge as the leader.

I could see Putin use a small tactical nuke in Ukraine out of frustration thinking Biden won't do anything about it and normally Biden wouldn't. But Our military leadership would run over Biden in that instance and there would be retaliation. And it might not stop from there.

No. In September of 1983, we were pretty close to all out nuclear war with the Soviets. At first you had KAL007 and then later in the month, they thought we'd launched on them. How close is debatable but I think nuclear weapon use was indeed "on the table" even though it wasn't publicly stated or even known by more than a few at the time.

When you embarrass a tyrannical true believing hardcore nationalist dictator, look out. They typically don't just fold and say "you're right, I'm sorry, I'll stop". If he gets his ass handed to him here, I'm not sure that's a good thing.

Not saying things are gonna go nuclear, but for the first time in a while, I'm a little concerned. Just the fear of nukes or escalation could ratchet up anxiety in a world that just doesn't have the stomach for much more.

I don't think anybody would do anything. Who is going to respond with a nuke of their own and start the apocalypse?

It was very close. The commanding officer of the Soviet detection system didn't trust the alarm. It was a new system that detected an ICBM, he didn't fully trust it, and he believed if the US were to attack first it would be hundreds of missiles, not one. They also had no corroboration from radar. Later, they detected 4 launches, and he had even less trust for the early detection system then and took no action. He was a phone call away from causing the Soviets to respond with everything they had. Their warning systems detected a launch, their protocols dictated a full response, and they were so paranoid about the US they would have likely launched everything.

I think it might have the effect of deterring the West since no one wants to test his sanity. But it would expedite the new arms race that his invasion has just started.

There's no apocalypse.

Just everything in Russia big enough to die gone.

Ironically we'd prolly give what's left to Germany.

Nah. Putin has been planning this for 30 years

He is getting up there in age and it's time to get it done while he can

The leftist idea of the US trying to create/enforce a no fly zone against Russia in Ukraine is possibly the dumbest one yet.

Belarus is learning what all nations are going to learn this decade which is that they're responsible for their own security and that nuclear is the mother of all trump cards. The world order was always going to become less stable this decade but Covid and weak US leadership is going to speed up that process.

Honestly, at this point I wish all nations would obtain nukes. This way perhaps, the idiots in charge everywhere would think twice before doing anything dumb foreign policy wise.

Lukashenko is a proper psycho. He cannot wait for the USSR to be back. He scares me far more than Putin does, Putin is tactical, Lukashenko is just a madman.

Putin has nothing to lose, especially if he doesnt take down Ukraine, and that makes him the scariest leader in the world. At that point he wont care whether he aunches nukes since his life as a leader would be over.

What people would "vote" for that!?!?
