Website doesn't have any 2022 info on it. I didn't attend but want my son (class of '26) to experience it.

Former student. Not sure the original source so was hoping someone here might be able to corroborate.

Good. Fish camp has been the leader of "my name is such and such, and my pronouns are x, y, and z" bull**** at A&M. Take out the garbage.

The problem wasn't the organization or it's original mission. The problem is liberals.

Fish camp is a way for attention *****s to be camp counselors and just show off for people.

Where are you hearing this from? Fish Camp last year didn't start enrolling anyone until April.

Issues with Fish Camp aside, it sounds like Banks is planning to burn down more than just the Batt, assuming this is true.

I hope the current iteration of it is dead.


It went full woke. Even when I was a fish camp counsler back in 2003, it was pretty "woke."

I do think it's a unique and potentially valuable thing for new students.

10 pages, 4 staff warnings, 2 bans....

More like a way for guys to hit on incoming freshmen.

FOW was my fish camp

Fish Camp started a noticeable woke down-hill slide in 2004. From all that I hear, I doubt it ever has (or will) come out of that skid.

When I went in 2005, there was no political stuff. Lots of Anchorman quotes and teaching A&M traditions to those that didn't know them yet (I was 3rd gen and 9th in the family so this part was almost me teaching some of the counselors things they didnt know). Other than meeting some people I hung out with that first semester or two, kind of a waste of time for me.

Fish Camp in 1973. When A&M was so unknown, no internet, no marketing. I enjoyed it and can see the purpose.

From what I've seen the past 20 years it became just one more clique and was more about the "counselors" and organization than the actual camp/campers.

I don't get the hate.

My kiddo did it online freshman year, and loved it. Kiddo was a counsellor last year. In both years, especially with Covid, it was a great experience for both kid, and those who participated. It can help you find your people. Kid made a lot of friends, and helped kiddo get involved in other organizations.
It's easy to diss organizations, but kiddo put in a LOT of work, to make sure that everybody was "included" with a special effort towards introverts, and in my kiddos case, was very apolitical.
They made a lot of effort to make sure that folks got into the right groups, with fairly similar kinds of people

And it didn't stop with Fish Camp. Kiddo and her counselor checked in on their kids through the year, and did a lot of activities with them. More than anything else, most of the fish camp counselors are part of other orgs as well, so it does open you opportunities to other things

If you want future generations of Aggies to bleed maroon, this is one way to do it.

Mine loved it last year. When we drove up, she looked at me and said, "it's band camp with normal people on steroids!"
