Doors were at 6 with event to begin at 7 and I had a conflict and didn't think I could make it. Ended up hauling ass and getting there at 6:55 only to be directed to a "stand by" line with two other students in front of me as the room was at capacity.
One of the guest service guys said "Hang tight-there's an 85% chance there will be some walkouts and you can then go in". At that point I thought well crap that means I'll miss all of the fireworks. The line kept growing to around 20 people or so.
Then one person left and next guy got escorted in. Waited a couple more minutes and a guy comes up and tells me and the guy in front of him to follow him to "donor seating". Next thing you know I'm on the front row just with a minute to spare before the "Renowned children's book author of 'Johnny the Walrus'" was introduced.
He started out with reading the published plans by the group that planned to disrupt the event which was funny. Didn't go as planned as there was no disruption to which Walsh ended the night by saying he was disappointed in.
Did his highly controversial hate speech that men are not women and women are not men followed by a Q&A. Only one guy got up that was combative but started off by saying he was going to be one of those disruptors but then proceeded to say he agreed with nearly everything Walsh said after listening. Almost seemed like a plant until he started going through this crazy word salad and suddenly turning himself into a pretzel only to finish the dialogue by saying he did not agree that there are only men and women so basically he disagreed with the premise of the entire talk.
Was a pretty nice little evening. The biggest and really only annoyance were all of the masked students I saw throughout the entire MSC (none in the lecture) and a lot of new army wearing their hats inside.
