Columbia University released a video stating that "intentionally misgendering someone" is against the Ivy League university's nondiscrimination policy, which could lead to an employee being dismissed.

The video, titled "Why Pronouns Matter," was uploaded to Columbia University's official YouTube account and explained how "using correct pronouns is a way to respect those around you."

"Intentionally misgendering someone by refusing to use the correct pronouns or name is a violation of the Columbia University nondiscrimination policy," the video stated. "Words matter. Even unintentional errors can create challenges."

<snip>

The video also explained that some people were using different pronouns than "she/her" and "he/him," including "they/them," "xe/xem," "ze/hir," "per/pers" and "ey/em."

Additionally, the video explained how someone may use multiple pronouns.

"if someone's pronouns are 'she/they,' that's just a quicker way to indicate that a person uses she, her, hers and they, them, theirs pronouns," the video stated.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Who is going around referring to people in THE THIRD PERSON in conversation with that person all the time? That's pretty much the only time that ever would happen that a person could witness themselves being misgendered or pronounced or whatever. If you address people by name, it CAN'T happen.

Runs a bit deeper. Psychatrist John Oliven was a long time professor at Columbia and coined the term Transgender in his work Sexual Hygiene and Pathology in 1965. Others in multiple fields were working in the same area around the world in multiple disciplines for at least 30-40 years in the run up to 1965, notably in Germany and at UCLA and Johns Hopkins.

But Olivens 1965 book really helped turn the tide and helped firmly pull "Gender" out from its grammer roots going back thousands of years. Given the timing in 1965 with the rise of the LGBT movement and sexual revolution. The weight of "science" allowed the movement to co-opt the term "gender" and redefine it into its now dozens of meanings today, leading to our "pronoun revolution" and the speech codes Columbia and many other institutions are wanting to enforce.

Isn't forced speech a violation of the first amendment?

We can't force grade schoolers to say the pledge, but we can force people to use specific pronouns?

What am I missing here? So long as we call anyone with XX Chromosomes-Her, She, Her's or XY Chromosomes-Him, He, His we are good right? Anything other than that would be "Misgendering" a person and cause for termination.

You know. Follow the science and all
