So Simpkins had nice clothes and a nice car. He was being bullied. He was also robbed twice. Be interesting to hear more about the ones doing the bullying and the robbing of Mr. Simpkins. And how he obtained the gun.

That vid was posted on the original thread I believe. Was it verified to have been this kid in the fight? There was some question on that thread as to whether that was old video of a different school fight.

I can empathize with him feeling like he was under threat if he was being bullied (yes, it's possible) but his solution is entirely unacceptable, and he needs to have the law applied. There were other ways to go, and people to involve. There is no excuse other than self defense against a deadly threat of violence to use a gun like that. Everyone loses a fistfight now and then. Deal with it.

These kids parents are completely AWOL. A strong parent teaches a kid how to work through a stressful situation not reverting to violence or at least to the extreme here.

It will be interesting to watch this. The MISD has a strict anti-bullying policy. The family claims they complained to the school who did nothing. If they truly complained to the school, there's a paper trail of what was done.

A kid made an off hand comment about how hard my son was pushing him in an extra-curricular activity and a teacher wrote it up as an "outcry". Once the dye was cast, there was no turning back, even though the kid adamantly said there was no bullying. I had to go up to school for a face to face meeting at which I was told my son never bullied anyone but the paperwork HAD to be completed then I had to sign and acknowledge I understood the bullying policy and would make sure my son followed it, even though he always already had.

His "nice car" was a 2008 Dodge Charger. And he shot a teacher in the back.

What is the race of the alleged bully?
That will determine what happens next.

Let's talk hypotheticals. Forget all the other laws he broke that pertain to the possession of the gun (on school premises, as a minor, etc.). I'm not saying this is what happened, but assume he is in fact being bullied by being physically assaulted at school on a regular basis, like seriously beaten to where he fears for his life.

Is it unreasonable for him to protect himself with a firearm?

I'm not doubting his circumstances are less than ideal. It doesn't make what he did ok; just saying many of these kids are being brought up in impossible situations.

I thought it was reported that he shot another kid? I haven't been following closely.

The bullying claim may or may not be legit, and honestly depending on the scenario it might affect my opinion on the severity of bringing a gun to the situation.

However, why would he shoot 2 people (not sure how the other 2 got injured)? Why would he shoot a teacher? And how did he shoot people with a .45 amd not kill them?

There is a lot I want to know about this whole situation.

The video has been covered many times. It is not a video of the fight that led to the shooting or of the kid involved.

I would argue a large segment of kids rarely get a chance to lose and learn how to deal with negative outcomes. Many simply have not learned how to 'Deal with it.' It is as if many are missing that coping mechanism that turns stress or trauma into a long-term positive learning experience.

Kid was getting beat up (robbed twice, and another fight that led to the shooting). Unfortunate that others got hurt, but that is one way to stop bullying.

Trained law enforcement offices often don't hit their targets. Do you think a high school kid, likely in a very heightened emotional state, would fair any better?

We have Nerf-ed everything in society in order to never endanger our kids or give them ANY opportunity to taste or deal with failure. While you soccer moms thought everyone getting a trophy was a good idea, your good intentions simply paved a path to hell.

Not every kid is special-- regardless of what the sunshine pumping society tells you.

A small % of kids are special. A larger % are above average. An even larger % are just average.

Then there's a HUGE population that are below average. It's just the way it is.

And when you make ALL kids feel like they're "special" and they never get to deal with failure properly, this is what you get.

While I think that's true for the elementary age kids; it may not be the case when you get to high school. Competitive sports, academic achievement and what not will smack a lot of kids with reality.
